Steve Irwin

I think it was incredibly stupid regardless of where it was, its a crocodile. Crocodiles and babies do not mix! A risk is a risk and you shouldnt do that kind of thing with a baby, even if the risk was incredibly small.

I forgot to add that, in Irwin's sanctuary, the crocodiles would have developed some fear of man that a croc in the wild would not have. It was still a silly thing to do, no question, but it could have been far more stupid and dangerous.

Actually I would have thought someone with kids would understand how stupid a thing it was that he did. Im surprised anyone would put their one month old baby at risk, no matter how small the risk was, and choosing to bring your baby into crocodile enclosure is a REALLY stupid thing to do. The reason there is such an uproar is because most people cant believe someone would actually do what he did...

Maybe im mad and yes 1 month is a bit young, but getting up everyday is a fucking risk, you may as well start teaching them to handle those risks. But yes 1 month old is a bit young for it

One month old is too young. Human babies don't start to learn very much until they're about three months old. They can barely smile at that age. He taught the boy nothing! He would have forgotten all about it five minutes later.

I think the fact that they were surrounded by handlers means nothing. Even if there were 200 handlers and a SWAT team standing by, it would have only taken one swift snap of the jaws or a swift swipe of the tail, and the baby would have been killed, and no amount of handlers could have stopped it.

I see what you are saying Gore, and you are right, but as you say there is still that minimal risk, and that is why he was stupid for doing it. As Spawny has been saying, the fact that there is any risk there at all is what raises the question of why would a loving father and a professional who knows the dangers, do something so stupid.

I fully agree that he was stupid for doing it. I was just pointing out that the danger could have been far worse in a different situation, and if he was going to do such a stupid thing, at least he did it in a place where there was at least some level of control. His argument that his father did the same thing is immaterial. If I was a stunt car driver, putting my one month old son in a car with me as I attempted to jump a canyon would be moronic no matter how "safe" I thought it might be.
