Someone was talking about Bleak before, and it got me thinking about something Mikael mentioned in interview about Steve's possible involvement in the next albums...

what are your thoughts? Personally, I welcome it...if we get to hear more stuff like Bleak...

Well I guess I'll be the blashphemer here. Even though BWP originally got me into Opeth and was the only Opeth album I liked for a while, I think the others grew on me. I find it nice that BWP was experimental and that steve was a big part of that, but I would like to see Opeth be themselves a little more in the next 2 albums, I mean I really don't wanna hear any more droning songs like harvest. I really love what he did with their sound, and I'm sure Opeth now know most of his tricks, so I don't think there would be much more of a need to mix Porcupine Tree with Opeth, I find that once was enough.

Good, up to a point. I liked some of the production things he did on Blackwater but his vox were a bit weak on Bleak... I mean it is a good song but I reckon it would have been more gooder if Mikael had done the "devious movements in your eyes..." bits.

I really feel that they should perhaps produce the new one too......BWP is over produced IMO....

i concur. personally i think the raw production on morningrise and mayh was the best...

Well, they finally got good bass mixing after MAYH and Still Life with him, and I like the small experimentations he helped them with. Basically he did a really good job producing it and actually managed to add something to the music instead of stifle it like a lot of producers. So yes. Good.

This thread makes me want to rememeber what Mike said about Stevens potential appearance on the next record when I met him last week.

I agree that Still Life is their best album, but after reading what Mikael had to say about making the album, to say the least, he didn't seem to excited about it.

And I do believe BWP is a tad bit over produced, but not in a bad way, if that makes any sense.

I hope so! Especially with the 'softer' second disk for the forthcoming Opeth album, I can see Wilson's experience in that area with Porcupine Tree adding *a lot* to the overall depth and richness of sound.

I also thought that Wilson laid down some excellent vocals on BWP, though I suspect that with the next album, if he does contribute vocals in any capacity, his singing style might be a little bit different, to act as more of a contrast to Mikael's clean vocal style - but that's just my own speculation.

If MAYH had the fucking incredible sound quality and texture of BWP, I would have to kill myself cuz I wouldn't be able to take it - that's how cool the production on BWP is, imo.

Indeed, how cool would that be, Mayh with the production of Bwp
