Steven Wilson will produce Orphaned Land!

^ Hey Marc, your Dutch!!! Alles goed,in de bovenste regionen van ons kleine landje?..:p

Well,OL is a great band imo..I like how they combined their homeland influences with metal, can't wait to see/hear them play at Wacken..:)

@Wankerness: What's wrong with Opeth's "Damnation" or Porcupine Tree?..

I don't think Wilson is to blame for turning Opeth into anything. I think Mike has always had full control over what that band does and creates, SW was there to augment it a bit that's all. I like "Damnation" actually, though it's not one I could listen to very often due to the overall somber nature of the record. I thought it was a nice departure for them at the time.

As for SW working with Orphaned Land, I think it's a wonderful opportunity for them to take the next step forward and to really refine their studio sound. It's a great opportunity for them, much in the same way as it was for us to work with Neil K. I can't wait to hear how this turns out for them.

Ja, ja alles goed hier, dank je!!! Alleen wil de lente hier nog niet zo vlotten :Smug:

I'll give OL a try soon. Furthermore I agree with Larry that Mike is in full control over Opeth's sound and Steve Wilson only put in that extra bit that Mike was looking for. Just watch the DVD (Lamentations).

So; I'm obviouly curious what Steven Wilson does for OL. Does anybody know any other metal(related)-production that he did?

Steven? I don't think he's actually done any, but he is buddies with a lot of metal bands, and his work on Blackfield is pretty awesome with another Israeli artist, Aviv Geffin

@Larry: What did ND do with Neil K.? :)

@Sept.Marc: ..I continue in English ok,it's not really nice if we talk in our own language. Nice to meet ya! And i agree the wheater sucks wet nads atm.. Are you goiing to see Katatonia? :)

I dunno about Steven..I think he did some guest appearance here and there..their last album "Deadwing" is a great album imo..

I find Damnation boring...like, most of their acoustic interludes on earlier albums are much more interesting guitar/music-wise, Damnation is very simplistic. I like "Hope Leaves," "Closure" and "To Rid the Disease" but otherwise it kinda leaves me cold.

As for Porcupine Tree I like about 1/3 of their stuff, they have a lot of very boring songs and quite a few good ones too. I just get sick of Steven Wilson doing stuff cause he has like 5 side-projects which all sound the same as Porcupine Tree (Blackfield, No-Man, that OSI song he did, etc).

pppfffff...i supose you feel the same way about Pain of Salvation?

No, of course not! They are one of my top 2 or 3 favorite bands :D Remedy Lane and The Perfect Element are definitely my favorite albums...

And Daniel Gildenlow doesn't do side projects (besides the flower kings) so we don't have the steven wilson problem :)

GOOD!! cause if you'd didn't like'm,I showed you my Italian temper..:heh:
I like also both albums you've mentioned and 12.5..:)

Damnation is a good album for the right mood,I agree it isn't Opeth's best album, but it certaintly isn't their worst..;)

Neil produced and engineered our previous album, "To Welcome The Fade". It was our first time working with an outside producer much less one of his experience and stature, and we learned alot from it and benefitted from the experience. I'm sure Orphaned Land will also benefit from the Steven Wilson collaboration.

"Damnation" doesn't bore me at all really. But again it comes down to that "To each their own" saying, really. The only thing I have against that record is yet again Opeth beat us to it, because we've discussed recording an all acoustic/mellow themed cd since like 1999! I'd still like to do it, but of course we'll have the people crying "Opeth clones" left and right. I hate people.
