Strictly non-metal!

Blitzkrieg

Master Exploder
Just wondering what are some non metal or hard rock acts people have been listening to lately?

After seeing him on Spicks and Specks the other week, I was meaning to check out Seasick Steve for a while, and have just finished listening to his album. Great bluesy southern rock. For an old dude on a three string guitar, he sure makes the damn thing wail.

Have also been giving many listens to the new Depeche Mode album, which has disappointed me a little as it isn't as strong as their last few, but I have still been enjoying it.

A norwegian folk/celtic mainly imstrumental group called Secret Garden.
Really good melancholic bliss.

have their stuff and not all that impressed by it.
good but not great.

Really want to find the Seasick Steve album.
what's it called, Blitzy, and where'd ya get it from?

but I've been listening to a lot of non-metal stuff.

The Cure
Eric Bogle (he rocks so much!)
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (Hawaiian folk singer with the most angelic voice who have ever heard. sang the cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow on the 50 First Dates soundtrack)
Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy soundtrack composer)
Louis Armstrong
Ali Project (Japanese female Visual Kei band)
Beethoven (mianly his 9th, the Lovely Lovely 9th)
various version of Whiter Shade of Pale & The Witchita Linesman
The Immortal Johny Cash :headbang:
various other stuff.

Tommy Emmanuel, Chroma Key and Celtus are the main ones that come to mind.

It's a pain in the arse to find any of Celtus' CDs though. The only reason I even have "Moonchild" is it was given to me at random by a guy in the unit above me when I lived in Brisbane when he bought a John Scholfield CD from Cash Converters and got that in it instead.

Some non-metal stuff which I don't necessarily listen to often but would rate amongst my favourites would include Urban Gypsies, Spiral Realms, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Paco De Lucia, The Corrs (bite your arses), David Arkenstone, Jeff Pearce, Tom Rothrock, Scott Huckabay and Afro Celt Sound System.

I have been listening to alot of The Pogues, Street Dogs, and other such assorted celtic/punk stuff, dunno why, just seems to be the music to listen to of late for me, I spent this arvo listening to Iced Earth though, so metal is making a comeback this week I think

I've been introduced to The Pogues recently. I like what I have heard, though no idea which album it was.

I gave The Pogues a go a couple of years back, but wasn't as impressed as most people seem to be when discussing them. Alas.

This Secret Garden sounds interesting, I shall google them later.

Rodrigo y Gabriela are great, I look forward to catching them live while abroad.

The Seasick Steve album is called "I Started Out With Nothin And I Still Got Most Of It Left". I got it on a torrent just to check it out, will likely buy now though. Am also seeing him live this year.

I saw a band the other night called Falloe, who I found fantastic. Folk rock, and the vocalist sounded very Damien Rice, with a hint of Bernard Fanning at times. Their song, The Ballad Of Jimmy James gave me chills. Listen to it on their myspace at www.myspace.com/falloe

cool.

thanks for that.
will look it up and see about ordering it from work or seeing if they have it in.

in other non-metal stuff that has caught my ear regularly, have to add to my list:

Gnarls Barkley -huge talent and such a guilty pleasure of mine.

Ted Egan -an old fav whom I'm trying to find again, classic Australian folk and storytelling

The Nightmare Before Chistmas OST by Danny Elfman -still a great after 17 years :headbang:

Queen

The Tea Party

Jeff Buckley

The Sisters of Mercy

Dead Can Dance

Only heard it once so not yet enough to pass judgement.

I've been listening to Endzeit Bunkertracks: Act IV as far as repeat listens go but spinning more metal this week as work and people (particularly other staff) are pissing me off!

Re: Townsend talk. They're all solo albums. First one is mostly clean/subtle (and has leaked already), second one is more like his usual solo stuff (ie, Accelerated Evolution heaviness), third is heavier SYL-ish material, fourth is subdued/ambient. That's what I've gathered from posts on his forum anyway, they follow the same pattern as his mood over the last few years.
