Suicidal Black Metal

Suicidal black metal is style based on, but not limited to, the themes of depression, agony, self-hatred, or misanthropy, and this is usually reflected through the music and lyrics. Most bands in the style use Burzum as a major influence. Many of the bands are slow, but others can be fast at times. There are no hard and fast rules for this classification, and just about any band's inclusion is arguable.

Anything Xasthur. Also, check out Metal Archives and type in the lyrical themes search Suicide, Depression, and stuff like that. You'll get bands that have that sort of lyrical content if your looking for a broader depressive set of music (all metal though).

Why would anybody want to listen to something about self-hatred?

Why would anybody want to listen to something about self-hatred?

I would say it encourages self-hatred, disobedience to authority, and disdains any kind of human dynamic or prime condition (Self-Confidence & Self-Worth)Pride,ego etc
a surrender of one's selfish interests or desires ... as humans OUR mind will not stop producing thoughts because of human desires. Therefore, our real/true inner self will be clouded by material desires forevermore, hatred of the mind means hatred of humanity and/or self.

I personally don't like much suicidal black metal at all even though xasthur was one of the first black metal bands I listened to and enjoyed, I now realize xasthur is actually quite bad. The only SBM band I think is good is elysian blaze.

I generally love suicidal black metal, but Xasthur has not yet clicked with me for some reason. I checked out some songs from Subliminal Genocide, and it just sounded dissonant and monotonous. I like bands more in the vein of Abyssic Hate, Anti, Sterbend, Silencer, early Forgotten Tomb, etc.
