Superior2/TMF kicks

Does anyone have any tips regarding how to get a good sound out of the kicks in avatar kit or metal foundry? I love every kit excluding the kicks which I haven't been able to pull a good sound from. By good kick sound I mean like the sound that Misha has from the Avatar kick.

For tight and focused metal sounding kicks, I go to Metal Foundry as I feel that the Avatar kicks are too open sounding. Pro Tip, the lower mids need to be tamed a lot, most eq's I saw in the beginning when I began to mess around with TMF was to scoop the living shit out the lower mids with a high q, move around the frequency until you find where the tone is most natural. Add some upper mids, I play around with exactly where, but somewhere between 2k and 4k, then I just give the 6K area some boosting until the kick has enough click to it.

Replace the kick with Steven Slate Drums ;-).
I had no luck getting a good kick sound out of MF yet. Maybe me, though.

PS: I'd replace the snare as well ;-)

i tried, and tried it and ended up replacing the klick and snare with slate/LSD samples.

Boost the lows, lower the low-mids... enhance the clickiness at 3khz, compress the fuck out of it.

I managed to get a useable sound, even though I'd still prbably rather go the slate sample route.

It was the SQ2 kick with mostly the inside mic, some transient designer to enhancing the click, slight compressor and some substractive EQ @ about 300 hz and some EQ boost on high end.

not sure the exact tone you are going for, but you need less low mids still and more 4-6K click. But its getting there.

All of the kit is TMF excpet some slight addition on the snare from a sample of my own. The snare from TMF is the pearl reference.
