I used the search function and read half a dozen posts. I'm curious though what everyone has in their amp right now.
Well dunno about the preamp tubes have yet to crack open the amp to have a look. I bought it used and know (due to FJA's kickass serial lookup)
Your serial # is on the bottom of the amp.
You can only look up work that FJA has done it's not a "history of every 5150 on the planet" lookup. Sorry for the confusion
If your amp has had any work done by Jerry it should be there:

Matched & Balaned 9th Gen Shugangs in the preamp (probably went overboard witht that) & a Set of JJ's in the power section... that & a bias mod set to just below the melting temperature of glass.

I had been reading baout those tubes....are they really the shit? Also, who did your bias mod and how much did it improve your sound? FYI this amp is strickly for HIGH GAIN guitars...I got other amps for clean stuff so that's all I care about.
I'm guessing here but I imagine either FJA or Voodoo.
WRONG
hehehhe. The bias mod was done by a local dude here in Windsor named Jay Swatman. I've been bringing him my serious maintenence work for years. Not cheap, but he does quality work. I downloaded the "5150 bias mod for dummies" step-by-step instructions & handed them over to him. The amp came back much, much louder & hotter. What was factory set to I think it was 12 or 18 milliamps was cranked up to 32! What did I notice, tonally? Less fizzies. The annoying fizz in the 5k region seemed to compress, while there was a very nice harmonic shift in the midrange, letting the guitar 'speak' more. Was it worth it? Fuck yeah! After all my tinkering with it, it winds up on about 95% of my projects. It really lets the sound of the individual player through. It's shit for clean, but that's why there's Rectifiers!
