Sweden Rock is probably the best outdoor metal festival I've ever been to. Great variety really sets them apart and the organization is top notch. In 2004 I was able to see bands like Opeth, Judas Priest (one of the very first reunion shows), Hirax, Entombed, Testament, etc. paired with bands like April Wine, Heart, Europe, The Scorpions, UFO, Montrose, Hawkwind, etc. Everything from black metal to early 70's progressive rock is on the bill and that's what truly sets it apart from it's competitors.

Highly recommended for anyone trying to chose between several different Euro fests.

you realize that the tickets alone are like $320 american dolla

Is that a lot?

considering wacken is less than half of that and has iron maiden, negura bunget, carcass, at the gates, cynic, primordial, opeth, obituary, nifelheim, kreator, grave, gorgoroth, exodus and evocation id say the answer is yes

but hey if ratt floats your boat who am i to tell you what to spend your greenbills on

Yep. I already bought my tickets.

considering wacken...

Iron Maiden - seeing them next week
Negura Bunget - they suck
Carcass - at Sweden Rock
At the Gates - at Sweden Rock
Cynic - not interested
Primordial - at Sweden Rock
Opeth - I've seen them 8 times
Obituary - not interested
Nifelheim - not interested
Kreator - I've seen them, wouldn't mind seeing them again
Grave - not interested
Gorgoroth - wouldn't mind checking these guys out
Exodus - not interested

but hey if ratt floats your boat who am i to tell you what to spend your greenbills on
Actually, Ratt does float my boat. I was a huge fan in the 80s. And although I rarely reach for any of my old Hair Metal CDs, bands like Ratt, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Poison, Saxon and Lizzy Borden should be a ton of fun in a festival setting. In addition, Tesla is probably my second favorite band of all-time. Not to mention. Sweden rock has Satyricon, who I'm dying to see live, and Priest. Plus, I believe Sweden Rock has another 40 bands to announce.

Regardless, when you're talking about dropping $2,000 on airfare (for my wife and I), hotels, meals, travel, drinking and merchandise, the $150 difference in ticket prices is the least of my concerns. Especially when I've been to Wacken already.

That said... have fun at Wacken. Should be awesome.

you're dead to me. :waah:
LOL. Ironically, I tried listening to 'N Crugu Bradului each of the last two nights. It's just not for me. I can respect that there's something unique going on, and that these guys have their own vision. But it's just unlistenable.

Has anyone seen them live? I'd be curious to know if their live sound is a reasonable facsimile of their studio work.

90% sure im not going. what sucks about wacken this year is theres gonna be like 100,000 people there (not even an exaggeration) because of the iron maiden headline. last year was already much too big to be fun, so i guess srf has the edge there simply for not being fuckcrowded like some open air auschwitz reenactment

Yep - They've already sold 60,000 regular tickets and expect a sell out by the end of the month. When all is said and done, I could easily see there being around 80,000 people there.

Last year was the least fun I had of the three times I've been there and the much larger crowd was certainly a huge part of the reason. In both 2001 and 2003 you could walk around and find a great place near the stage with ease. There were like 25,000 people there in 2001 and around 30,000 to 35,000 in 2003. That crowd was MUCH larger last year and led to plenty of uncomfortable situations when trying to find a good spot, find friends, etc. Still a blast, but as the festival continues to grow, the more comfort factor decreases with each passing year. This year will be insane.
