Symphony X's most beautiful moment.

Y'know, what makes Russell the greatest singer in the world isn't just his beautiful voice or his unbelievable range; but his uncanny penchant for the staggering melodies that he comes up with; from "The Damnation Game" on. I mean, what an ear!:OMG:

"Dawn breaks the ground my love and with it you fade away-ay- Close your eyes and try to REMEMBER...

The middle choral part of "A Winter's Dream"[II].
"ooh ooh ooh ooh- In a winter's dream, I'll be there for yooou."
Or really that whole song.

"Losing faith in who I am ooh oh- never changin' just rearrangin' my life again."

Everybody's work on "The Accolade". I'm not even gonna try and break that song down.

"Mystic...gods of the stars- I summon thee from afar." That whole part- aaah.

"Lookin' out on a blue sky..." Yeah. Can't argue there. But I prefer the LOTEOF version.

Everyone's work on "Candlelight Fantasia", especially Romeo and Pinnella's.

The middle of "Rediscovery Pt. II".:)

And "The Odyssey", esp. Pts. II & IV.

Hm, most beautiful moment has to be the "Looking out on a blue sky..." vocal-part on DWOT, but I get even more chills up my spine when he growls "Banish all kings from the face of the land" - now THAT's cool! =)

You people are awesome. I just had to get that off my chest. :) I'm getting chills just sitting here *reading* this stuff and hearing it in my head. Most of the moments mentioned here are probably "the most beautiful moment" when I'm listening to them!

Prismatic Sphere is dead on about Russell and what makes him the best singer ever. It took me some time to come to this realization - I think it's because you need quite some time to discover all of the depths of his voice. (I still totally love James LaBrie, get chills when I listen to him, and occassionally want to commit everyone who doesn't like him to an insane asylum, but he will have to be #2 to Russell).

Another moment that hasn't been mentioned specifically is that "ohhh ohhhh ohhh" part in The Accolade. When I heard that live I was already in tears from Communion and The Oracle (one of my favorite songs ever) and that part totally did me in. I felt like I couldn't breathe and was just rooted to the ground. It was an incredible moment. And then they transitioned into Accolade II...damn I miss that tour already!

Every one else's moments are incredible and ones that I would have picked too. And ProgMetal fan rules too because w/out him I wouldn't have known these moments even existed, or at least it might have taken me a lot longer to find out.

I always get teary eyed at the end of The Odyssey when it's just Russell and the guitar. I just want to cheer Yea the journey has a happy ending! Also Awakenings is the best song ever. I love the piano solo in the middle, and when Russell holds that note out at the end...oh man.

My absolute gushiest favorite is Russell Allens voice in Through the Looking Glass...i love good vocals. The Accolades 1 and 2 are also really beautiful, Fallen and King of Terrors kick butt.

For those who have said the Beginning of Awakenings, I agree completely. Could only be bothered to quote these two bits though:

Accolade II:
I wish to stay to be here with you,
You were my strength, how can I go on?

Rediscovery (Part II) - The New Mythology:
Lost evermore; the essence of truth,
Although she tried in vain to bring us peace,
It will ever rest in our hands.
We've cried a thousand tears for all we had,
And all the things we could have been.
We must find our way again.

Absolutely!! Also the very last part - "choose the way..."

"...I find my kingdom in Jepardy, vengeance it swells within me, as I spy, so many who eye my queen, i'll make them pay for this blasphemy, all will see: triumphant, champion of ithaca"

Wow, the first time I heard this I was forced to change my freshly soiled boxers... It just sounds...SO COOL! I can't describe it any other way...

Yes, after just finishing The Odyssey, I also LOVE the last minute or so of the song, when it's just Russel and Romeo on the electric...

In twilight and faded time
Spirits cold, with no love
Bells ring a lonely chime
Candle fires
These lit dreams can't burn alone

OMG! I forgot that! That's my second fav Symphony X moment after the end of Divine Wings on the live album.

The absolute master moment of Symphony X must be the middle part of
the song "The Odyssey", Part IV, I think, that starts with
"We corouse with the maiden..." all the way to "...She's mesmorised".
Great singing, great backing vocals, great music to back it all up and my favorite moment.

this is also very beautiful:

the part in lady of the snow where russell gets high: she CAAAAAALLSS! calling meeeee.. I can't fiighht anymore... (so the ad-libs). Also, the chorus of the edge of forever is very beautiful (I don't know if anyone else posted that one, I'm to lazy to look)

Has the chorus of Through The Looking Glass been mentioned yet...possibly the best use of vocal harmonies in a SX composition...

That is by far one of my very favorite songs. After all the intrumental craziness is done and goes back into "DREAM ON- Do you believe.....". It doesn't get any better than that. Not to mention the killer piano part at the first verse. So beautiful. :waah:

I like the studio and live versions about the same.

I put this song and part 1 on my open house video for graduation last year. It fit perfectly.

I hope they do another live album soon. They have to play this one.
