Read the 2nd listing (at least it was today) below the article about Stratovarius' downloading problems.

This guy is out of his fucking mind! If he honestly believes SyX's CDs are boring then he obviously has no right to comment on progressive metal (or any metal in my opinion)! I'll never listen to anything this guys got to say again!

What a joke!

Well, I've never heard Stratovarius' music, so I can't make a comparison on that one.

I do have one questions though regarding Blind Guardian: Does anyone here like them? I listened to about 5 MP3's this afternoon and I really didn't like any of them. And the singer sounded like he has a speech impediment on "The Lord of the Rings". the harmonies were cool, but the writing seemed very unpolished and frankly, immature.

I don't know. I certainly don't want to offend anyone here who likes BG, but from what I heard they aren't even of the same caliber of SymphonyX. And that guys comments regarding the BG/SyX show that he missed were a bit shocking as well. Of the 2 bands he said he didn't mind missing SyX because they were boring. Is Blind Guardian a good band? They certainly didn't sound good to me.

In my opinion Blind Gaurdian is nowhere near SX caliber (few bands are), but they are still a good band. I own "Night At The Opera" and "Nightfall in Middle Earth" and enjoy both of them. That guy was just a retard.

A Stratovarius fan calling Sy X boring?? Well, there are different tastes of music but this guy can't be taken seriously imo. Stratovarius is basically writing the same song all over again, and that guy calls Sy X boring...

Well, anyway... There are strange people out there and obviously there are even strange metal fans. :)

Concerning the Blind Guardian topic: I just own their two latest CDs ("Nightfall in Middle Earth" and "A Night At The Opera") and I like them both. You can't really compare them to Sy X, their style is somewhat unique in the whole metal business I think, and that makes them so interesting. I dont know another band with so many parallel melodies (be it guitar or vocals) in a single song. I always need some time to really "see through" their songs cause the first time it's all just too much for my hearing. If you listen to the new album you will hardly find a vocal passage without paralell backing vocals (and most of the time several paralell melodies).

I havent seen a live show of BG yet but I've been told that they can't really transfer this stuff on the stage. Obviously they dont even have a choir when they are playing live. Maybe anyone who has seen them can say more about that?

A week later found me passing up the Blind Guardian/Symphony X show due to a bad cold and asthma problems which started in Atlanta and just finally ended this past week. I was happy to miss Symphony X, as I heard they were boring as hell. That doesn’t come as a shock to me since they’re also boring as hell on CD. That’s one band whose diehard following has never made much sense to me. I guess you have to be a musician to appreciate their talent or something - that seems to be the line that gets used when they or Dream Theater or any other prog band gets criticized for boring people.

Holy shit what a fucking idiot!

Right!!
SX boring as hell on cd, yes? And what are Stratovarius like? They always sound like a copy of themselves lately, where Symphony X (I'm not saying this because SX are my fave band, I hasten to add!) always come up with different stuff, let alone INTERESTING and INTELLIGENT music...
And he "heard" that SX were boring live? So, hearsay counts too these days?
That guy really needs new shell-likes, seriously.... :p

I saw blind guardian in worcester, ma back in november. They put on a killer show just like symphony x. Also, A Night at the Opera really needs a few listens before u can really appreciate how good it is.. the first time i heard it, i didn't really like it, but now i love it

I hated it more with each listen. One of my worst purchases in 2002 along with "Six Degrees of Intestinal Flatulance".

Reading that article made me think, if it was Timo Tolkki himself, who wrote it... After all, he said that in his opinion, prog is nothing but showing off your skills and it's quite boring. He even said that he doesn't appreciate the style and has never really liked it.

Now I have to wonder, why did they choose Symphony X as an opening act for their tour, or could it be true, that he actually gave the other guys the privilege to choose them... The only thing I'm really worried about now, is if they'll give SyX enough time to play, especially if there will be a third band (Edguy) playing as well...

Something Stratovarius is more guilty of than Symphony X, with frequent descents into shred wankery and fatuous bombast...they consistently find themselves overextended at just about every attempt to write something more demanding than power metal.

That's exactly the reason, why I couldn't understand Timo's words... I simply can't imagine, what's going on inside his head.

He goes on and on about how much did the making of Elements pt.1 cost, and how it's supposed to be much more aggressive and powerful and blablabla... I've had enough of that! I'm 100% sure, that when I hear it for the first time, I can recognize at least some of the riffs and melodies, 'cause we've all heard those so many times!

I've got only one suggestion for mr. Tolkki... Go and look in the mirror! You blame other ppl for what you've done yourself.
