Unfortunately it's not one of my worst purchases of the year and I also hated the BG disc the more that I listened to it!

Agreed, but I understand the attitude towards Stratovarius on this particular thread. He said that Syx are boring (and all prog bands) but he didn't give any valid points.
The guy likes Stratovarius and calls Symphony X boring? give me a break, he likes a band that releases the same album over and over?
Bottomline: I agree, but I don't find this to be relevant on this kind of thread.

I understand that You're all against this guy who said that Symphony X's boring, but I don't understand, what do You have against Stratovarius...? Stratovarius is one hell of a band, and they are all great musicians, so don't go down to that guys level, saying that they are boring...
No one can't say that one band is better than the other, because it's just someone's personal opinion. And You should all have in mind that Symphony X and Stratovarius are doing their music best they can.
And we are not that competent to judge, because only the members of those two GREAT bands know how hard they worked to get on the top where they BOTH are.

Wellsir this is the band's official board so naturally most of the people are going to favour Symphony X a little (I sure as hell do! ). As for Startovarius I think they were okay but I really found their songs boring and Tolkki's a jerkoff.

As for Dr. metal. I was quite surprised when I read that on his page. I frequent there alot for reviews and shit. He is quite power metal infuenced. I got pissed when I read that cause it's just not true. It's as simple as that.

Well, anyway... There are strange people out there and obviously there are even strange metal fans.
Concerning the Blind Guardian topic: I just own their two latest CDs ("Nightfall in Middle Earth" and "A Night At The Opera") and I like them both. You can't really compare them to Sy X, their style is somewhat unique in the whole metal business I think, and that makes them so interesting. I dont know another band with so many parallel melodies (be it guitar or vocals) in a single song. I always need some time to really "see through" their songs cause the first time it's all just too much for my hearing. If you listen to the new album you will hardly find a vocal passage without paralell backing vocals (and most of the time several paralell melodies).
I havent seen a live show of BG yet but I've been told that they can't really transfer this stuff on the stage. Obviously they dont even have a choir when they are playing live. Maybe anyone who has seen them can say more about that?
Blind Guardian is total bullshit, but that's just my opinion. I agree that Stratovarius is doing the same stuff over and over again, that's why it really is strange that a stratofan is calling Symphony X boring. Anyway Symphony X has done nothing interesting since Twilight in Olympus, which is overall their best release so far with The Divine Wings of Tragedy. V bores me to death. The Odyssey got me enthusiastic for a while, but I soon got bored to it too, except the title track.

you're entitled to your opinion, just like anyone else, but I disagree that TIO was the best SyX album to date. I think it was the most commercial and most upbeat album, but not the best. I still think Divine Wings is overall the best album from SyX. The Odyssey is 1 step behind with TIO coming in 3rd. I just found my copy of V yesterday so I have to listen to it again a few times before I judge it.
If you don't like the commercial side of Symphony X, like me, you won't/shouldn't like V, because that's absolutely their most commercial release so far. What makes TiO commercial in your opinion?
