Test your ears - WAV vs various MP3

Is there any way to avoid being able to see the LP that mp3 files add?

Just listen to it?

if you look for it, you'll see the low pass, as this is part of the mp3 encoding.

Still not quite understanding, how do you see the lowpass? Unless you've got one of those EQ visualisers on, in which case you could just turn it off?

I wanted to do this with Ayreon's 10101010101, really nice mix with a great high-end, especially with all the synths, but BOTH my CDs seemed to be scratched. I'll try get them working.

With a spectrum analyzer. I didn't see them until after I had already made my choice on which was which

Oh, that sucks. I guess that the only way to make a blind test is to actually blindfold the person

How so?

I used Windows Media Player to rip from the CD into a wav file. Encoded that wav file into mp3 3 separate times. Imported all 4 into Sonar, chopped them up and exported as a 16bit, 44.1khz, undithered wav.
