the Absu s/t thread

It's not just RC.

Their early stuff is more death metal oriented. Tara is thrashy and fast as fuck...total neck snappage.

I just listened to the new disc on a ride this morning in the car ... its a fascinating little ditty. Not sure I am totally sold on it but it did hold my attention.

"those of the void will re-enter" has a mind numbingly sick explosion after a quiet passage in the middle of the track that was certainly memorable.

I do have a problem with Absu overall as they seem a bit disjointed style wise. Drums are very Death Metal, Guitars sound more Black Metal (with weird snake-charmer middle eastern melodies everywhere, which I never particularly like in any band) and the vocals are a fine line between Thrash and Black, more thrash.
It kind of works together ... but I can't help think if something was more fine tuned this band would be a real monster.

I think the new record is awesome, I got it on saturday. Absu are one of my favourite bands and this new one doesn't disappoint. I love Tara but it can sound a bit samey in places

As promised in the Slough Feg thread, Absu's set from SXSW... Think I have it tagged right.

Awesome set they play. Great recording too, better than most official live albums of the style.

The intro to 4 Crossed Wands is the greatest spoken live intro of all time...

Edit: I'm a fucking moron, I was looking at a setlist double checking and I put "Menunen" instead of "Manannan". Oh well, you'll figure it out.

13 Globes and Sceptre Command are both kicking my ass atm,i still love "In The Eyes Of Joldanach" a little more i think, just like the rawer approach and production a little more, this new one is still fuckin awesome tho

ABSU - NORTH AMERICAN TOUR!

They have a show in Toronto soon.. annoying that both Averse Sefira and Glorior Belli had to drop out. Heh.. wanted to see Glorior Belli.

Yeah :(. I don't think Averse Sefira mentioned their reasons as to why, but Glorior Belli said this:

Glorior Belli are forced to cancel their participation to the North-American tour with Absu.

It was impossible for our label Candlelight to get everything arranged legally for the coming of the band and therefore we have no other choice but to pull out.

We'd like to clarify the situation a bit now by providing a few more details. When our first statement got published earlier today most of you somehow missed the point.

The only reason why the we couldn't obtain our visas is because the materials presented for the petition were not enough to satisfy the minimum requirements needed for a work visa petition.

We are extremely disappointed of course but there is sadly no reasonable alternative left.

Marduk dropped off the Marduk/Mayhem gig as well after missing most of the shows on their tour, again due to one guys visa. Seems like the openers dropped off with this news too, and shitty bands from Toronto were put in their place. June's not a good month for getting your work visas, apparently.

It was originally announced to be at Firewater.

Then I go to the firewater website and don't see it and I click on the link to the firewater myspace and it goes to a Trees myspace?

So much for going to that show.

Hmm, Trees died years ago. Looks like it's being resurrected and replacing Firewater? But Trees is going to be in Deep Ellum just like it was before. THIS MAKES NO SENSE.

The Firewater building will probably turn into a Mexican club, or a taqueria, or both.
