I'm going to start reading this tomorrow.

Has anyone else read it? Don't give anything away! By the way, they're making this into a movie now.

@NAD -- Life of Pi, then Passarolla Rising, then The Alchemist, then Siddartha.......and THEN Satanic Verses. I promise. :)

I wanted to read it until the smartest person I know said it was simple and on the "lighter" side of literature i.e. not worth my time.

Touche.

I'd do anything for someone else to read GR. Maybe even listen to Celtic Frost.

^ actually.......... it is sort of on the lighter side of literatue,
but that doesn't mean it will "waste" your time....

its "spirtual", some people hate that...
I normally do too, but this book is good.

Well, I meant lighter side as "not all that profound, catered to Barnes and Noble customers" sort of dealie. As for the spiritual thing, this is a guy VERY well versed in modern Buddhism, philosophy and theology. He's one of those meditatin' fuckers who claims to be able to do remote viewing, bend spoons, and actually understand Finnegans Wake. :loco:

As far as spiritual/simple...

HERMAN HESSE :kickass:

Yeah Siddartha is next for me. I already have it, but I don't mind some light reading beforehand.

Life of Pi was light reading and it's one of my fave books ever.

Awesome. After you read both, let me know the verdict on The Alchemist and maybe I'll read it if I need to kill a few hours (it's pretty short, right?).

Good book, but not his best. I'm slowly making my way through the rest of them... so far "The Fifth Mountain" has been the best.

My wife read it and loved it. Therefore, I know it would probably be a bit light for me. I'm not quite like Dick, but I can smell a cliche from a million miles away. Not saying this book is a cliche, though.

probably has nothing to do with actual alchemy.
It do actually!

This is a really cool book, but yeah it's quite simple. But who cares? So is Siddhartha and that book is brilliant, brilliant I say!

And then there's Finnegans Wake. When I got that book a friend of mine warned me "KEEP IT SHELVED" and I didn't listen. Was reading it one night and it cracked me up, then I stared at the book across the room and the fucking thing moved on its own. I told said friend about the occurence and he said "I WARNED YE!!!" just like Tim. Awesome book, it makes my bowels turn into Red Vines.

Heh, I call it awesome too, even though I probably understand 5% of it. 'Tis truly a book to be admired from afar. I haven't taken a full leap into it yet, though, but I'll probably have to wait until I have... oh, about a year of free time.

Use-less-es, on the other hand... :kickass:

Wow, I've used that smilie twice, both about books. I'm a true nerd.

Yeah if I can comprehend 5 words per page, I consider myself way ahead of the game. The edition I have has a nice introduction that basically says that's the best you can ever hope for really, it's a book that certain people get certain little things from, and that's it.

I'm sure one could (and has) totally dissected the thing, but I'm pretty content just understanding what little I do and enjoying the rest on a hOumoUroUs level.

Oh yeah, and I've read 10 pages over the past year and a half. Woo. :)
