The best Amp head for traking lead?

All very good! I guess it just boils down to getting a kickass tone with what you have.....Am I right!
See if you guys can give me any suggestions,
I quad tracked the rythms.
2 tracks Krankenstein (through mesa cab V'30s) Panned 80%
2 tracks Mesa Dual (through mesa cab V30's) Panned 100%

I was thinking 2 tracks of Krankenstein through the Krankenstein cab.?
What do you think?...The cabs not bad but....?

Also does anyone have any creamy setting for the Krank? Someting that makes those squeels just "POP"?

Fucking hell is that is what you are working with then there is no reason why you can't get great (YES GREAT) tones.....also try throwing a ts-9 in front...

Ohh ya I've got the mod. TS-9 in there!!! Woulnt go without.
Howmuch mids do you guys throw on leads.
My Krank for rythms was at 3.Mesa was at 10 o'clock.

Ya though no prob with tones. Just trying to find that special Lead tone that makes you wet yourself when you hear it!
Also just thought Id throw this out there. the Krank and Mesa dual blend awesome together!
Man where Andy when you need him.....oh ya I guess he works too.

Well Andy when you get time shoot me a reply.

Cheers to you all !!!

You can get a great sound lead sound out of a rectifier. This is straight in, no effects at all except a little chorus on the opening lick.
Man... your playing kicks ass... excellent.

just listened.....lead is spot on....rhythm is lacking life....needs more low and mid....

I hate the JCM900 and 2000, which I own both of, for anything rhythm. I have bands use them for cleans and leads. That's it. They are alright for those purposes. Rhythm on those things is just horrid compared to my other amps (5150, PowerBall, Dual Recto).

I use to own a JCM800 2203, just sold it a few weeks back to add to the JSX fund, :), but it was a great all around amp. It didn't get used as much as I thought it should, and I prefer my 5150 over it personally, so I wasn't using it. The JSX should be a good replacement for that though.

To my ears, that lead tone is fantastic... very clear, cuts through, doesn't muddy anything up. Perfectly audible and not at all overbearing. What cab and mic did you use here? And, by any chance, could you post a higher bitrate mp3 so I can hear better what's really going on here?

Thanks guys. That was recorded with a Rode NT2 pointed straight on at the dust cap, 6" out from the grille of an old Laney 4x12 with G12M70s (yuck) which explains the lack of low mids and lows. You guys have taught me the error of my ways and now I use a 57 and Mesa recto cabs. I still think the orange channel of the recto can get a good lead sound if you turn the gain up no more than 2 o'clock or 2:30 but what the hell do I know? I'm here to learn! Drums were Fear Factory samples, I think. Here's a higher bitrate (320k) mp3...

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Just goes to show you, good tone can come from unexpected places and gear, and it can ALWAYS come from properly trained fingers.
