The Black album

Yeah that DVD has some good moments on it, off the top of my head I remember there being many guitar tracks with different amps blended and a SM91 for the kick drum. Cabs in a wall of foam style alcove....erm *blanks* :)

did anyone catch that special they had on either VH1 or MTV. i'm not sure which on .......But it had bob rock and hetfield and lars sitting in the studio....and they were pulling up some of the black album mixes and they were soloing stuff out and commenting on some things......its was really cool....

most of it is on youtube dude!

even with all this info. there is still little fact about the engineering of the guitars. band members generally say the exact opposite of stuff engineering wise during a recording session. monty jays website is great but it gives you an idea of what amp they were using at the time.

the only interview and solid evidence i read was bob rock saying that the mark iic+ slaved into marshall power amps and i believe the mark iv which came out at the time was also used but the iic+ made the cut for most rhythms. also there are a bunch of interviews in which james said bob rock brought in a bunch of different amps and a ton was layered but i do believe the heart of the tone is the iic+. as far as mics and stuff i do know that bob rock said that there were tons of different mics used to switch between tone types but no details past that. i wouldn't believe anything 100% except the boogie stuff except if randy staub said something. i have never read interviews with him speaking about the black album.
