The business behind getting high.

so, yea...a bill was introduced into the CA state legislature on monday which would completely legalize the sale, possession, use, and manufacture of cannabis and its related paraphernalia, while taxing growers $50 for every ounce produced, and specifically barring local and state authorities from recognizing federal laws in regards to such

if it passes, it's expected that this will give the state over $1 billion in revenues per year...but TBH, i think it'll be even more than that, as CA will become a MAJOR producer of weed for the entire country

Thats another thing, the absolute GREATEST swimmer of all fucking time.....smokes bud!! Phelps is the masta

And I hope that bill passes...theres still somewhat of a 50/50 chance that some jesus boys and their cocktails can shut us down again :(

The drug companies piss me off even more than the beer pushers. Considering THEY created Heroin, Cocaine, PCP, LSD, Synthetic Methamphetamine (holy fuck, and im not even playing with you, the chemical compound of this drug for serious-case "ADD" patients is almost identical to typical meth found as a recreational drug) realized the side effects and addiction were uncontrollable throughout the mass population, then banned all of the above. To top it off, those motherfuckers throw POT in the same class as these, and why? Because mexican slave workers liked to smoke bud after working 50 hours a day for next to nothing, and you guessed it we were all a bunch of racist pricks, -BANNED. Adderall anyone? Yeah thats right, its basically a drug company brand of cocaine given out to thousands upon thousands of children for this disorder they created (ADD, etc), hell I even think it gives you a better boost than cocaine honestly. This drug is absolutely RAMPANT on the college campus, people needing to do 10 page papers, taking one of those and staying up for 2 nights straight writing the best paper they have ever written. ADD is bullshit anyway, get up off of your fucking ass and parent your kid right and teach it how to fucking pay attention. They hand out those things like M&M to kids now, and it saddens me to know that kids (im talking younger than 16) are essentially taking a form of cocaine everyday.

Alright im done.. ;) Im like 006, I want people to be informed of the FACTS!

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is sending strong signals that President Obama - who as a candidate said states should be allowed to make their own rules on medical marijuana - will end raids on pot dispensaries in California.

Obama ends raids at medical marijuana dispensaries:

Asked at a Washington news conference Wednesday about Drug Enforcement Administration raids in California since Obama took office last month, Holder said the administration has changed its policy.

"What the president said during the campaign, you’ll be surprised to know, will be consistent with what we’ll be doing here in law enforcement," he said. "What he said during the campaign is now American policy."

Bill Piper, national affairs director of the Drug Policy Alliance, a marijuana advocacy group, said the statement is encouraging.

"I think it definitely signals that Obama is moving in a new direction, that it means what he said on the campaign trail that marijuana should be treated as a health issue rather than a criminal justice issue," he said.

Piper said Obama has also indicated he will drop the federal government’s long-standing opposition to health officials’ needle-exchange programs for drug users.

During one campaign appearance, Obama recalled that his mother had died of cancer and said he saw no difference between doctor-prescribed morphine and marijuana as pain relievers. He told an interviewer in March that it was "entirely appropriate" for a state to legalize the medical use of marijuana "with the same controls as other drugs prescribed by doctors."

After the federal Drug Enforcement Agency raided a marijuana dispensary at South Lake Tahoe on Jan. 22, two days after Obama’s inauguration, and four others in the Los Angeles area on Feb. 2, White House spokesman Nick Schapiro responded to advocacy groups’ protests by noting that Obama had not yet appointed his drug policy team.

"The president believes that federal resources should not be used to circumvent state laws" and expects his appointees to follow that policy, Schapiro said.

The federal government has fought state medicinal pot laws since Californians voted in 1996 to repeal criminal penalties for medical use of marijuana.

President Bill Clinton’s administration won a Supreme Court case, originating in Oakland, that allowed federal authorities to shut down nonprofit organizations that supplied medical marijuana to their members. Clinton’s Justice Department was thwarted by federal courts in an attempt to punish California doctors who recommended marijuana to their patients.

President George W. Bush’s administration went further, raiding medical marijuana growers and clinics, prosecuting suppliers under federal drug laws after winning another Supreme Court case and pressuring commercial property owners to evict marijuana dispensaries by threatening legal action.

The Bush administration also blocked a University of Massachusetts researcher’s attempt to grow marijuana for studies of its medical properties. Piper, of the Drug Policy Alliance, said he hopes Obama will reverse that position.

"If you removed the obstacles to research," he said, "in 10 to 15 years, marijuana will be available in pharmacies."

Finally. This motherfucker said DEA raids were going to end in California as soon as he stepped into office. Whatever, better late than never I guess.

to be fair, i'm sure dude has had a lot more to worry about in his 1st month in office than some dispensary busts in tahoe...

Yeah, I realize that. It's just frustrating when he says one thing, and as soon as he gets into office the DEA starts busting places left and right to spite what he said. I'm just glad he finally got around to delivering what he promised.

Because the president alone directs and controls the DEA on a day-to-day basis? Get real. The FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF and XYZ all have their agendas and directors, I'd be VERY surprised to hear that they run every game plan by the president.

yea...it was probably one of those deals where he completely forgot about the issue after taking office, then got wind of the DEA making raids...remembered his campaign promise, then called the DEA off

technically those agencies have to follow the president's word, since they are under the power of the executive...but yea, if he hadn't yet officially changed the policy, then of course they were going to get their last few digs in

no biggie though, IMO - the feds have been busting dispensaries for over a decade now...hasn't kept them from popping up all over the place

Again, I understand that the president doesn't control everything and there are other priorities etc. But this is just one issue that hits really close to home with me and gets me very angry sometimes. For example, a co-op that I frequently visited that I felt was one of the nicer places in terms of prices and people was shut down right after Obama was elected. These were people that were handing out Obama stickers, and supporting him in any way possible because of his promise to the dispensaries in California, amongst other things. It just really PISSES me off that these guys were so supportive of Obama, yet they get shut down as soon as he gets into office. Doesn't seem right does it ?
