Is it just me or does "The Dark Chapter" have Cacophony era Becker and Friedman influence all over? And that is definitely not a bad thing.

Its funny how so many Romeo critics say that he's just a wannabee Malmsteen. Well I see more of Becker/Friedman and other guitarists than I see Malmsteen in his playing. Yes, there is the occassional blazing harmonic minor scale and the paganni style licks, but so what, it sounds awesome, anything he plays sounds awesome.

Oh well, just an observation. Romeo and SX rule.

Death to Critics!!! :Shedevil:

Oh yeah, definitely the whammy bar is very Beckerish :)
And also, the little harmonic squeals he does with the g-string and the whammy.
Also, there are a lot of little psychotic runs, often with many chromatics involved that are very reminiscent of Cacophony
I also hear other "repeating patterns" that sound like something that Marty would play.

I have always thought MJR sounded more influenced by Becker/Friedman than Malmsteen. I think Malmsteen was a big influence, but I think MJR went beyond his stuff to incorporate less orthodox playing. I think there is a lot of Perpetual Burn influence in The Dark Chapter.
