that is a valid explanation, which does indeed apply to said bands.

i, however, have also seen bands with no particular sxe ties use this.

explain that?

a) they either dont know what it is and use it out of coincidence

b) they saw it on a band logo, thought it was "cool" and so are poser idiots who adopted it without knowing what it is.

easy.. bring on the next question.

there's also the fact that there's any extremely large, probably much larger than the entire straightedge movement, subculture of kids who get all of their music and musical information through the internet, and who promote their bands primarily through, also, the internet. very rarely will most bands formed by musicians of this sort ever have to consider whether people will actually be "speaking" their name. case in point: how the fuck are you supposed to pronounce "Sunn O)))" or ":a~POD", exactly? it doesn't matter.

i dont give sxe kids any credit.

for most of my experience, at least as musicians, they're ripoff artists and trend followers.

Yeah sxe bands like MINOR THREAT and SS DECONTROL were rip off artists, all the way back in 1980 !!!! HAHAHAHHAHA 2 sxe bands that pretty much INVENTED HARDCORE as we know it.

you have no idea what you are talking about, the straightedge movement has been around since 1980..... and it was hardly a trend or something "cool" to do back then.

NO ITS NOT !!

this is what straightedge hardcore bands use to distinguish themselves from regular hardcore bands in their logo, X = being the straightedge symbol of abstinence.

hence you get bands like XchampionX, XmouthpieceX, XchorusX, XLooking ForwardX etc etc
see this site for more info -

Teh Grimarse, are you actually into hardcore, or just a poser ?

The old man knows what he's talking about.

"Too hardcore" is:
1. Using Elmer's glue to hold up your 2 foot Mohawk.
2. Having to pick a fight with someone before you go to bed at night or you won't be able to sleep.
3. Drinking beer for breakfast.
4. Spray painting anarchy symbols on cop cars.
5. Collecting punk rock pins to cover up every inch of your filthy ass denim jacket.
6. Being homeless by choice.
7. Stealing cigarette buts out of the ashtrays in front of supermarkets.
8. Going to metal shows, not because you like the music, but so you can beat up the long hairs in the mosh pit.
9. Taking your belongings to the pawn shop so you have beer money.
10. Pissing in public whenever possible.

Does that describe your boyfriend, Susperia?

FEAR and The Birthday Party invented the kind of hardcore I give a fuck about.

1. yes i do.
2. i know that.
3. yes it was, for everybody except for maybe Ian MacKaye, who probably felt like he was changing the world for the better, but every sXe kid since him has been a douchebag.

Well it could have been a hypothetical situation. The way smilies are thrown around on this forum you can't really be sure of their intended meaning. Personally I think that "yell" smiley looks like a "drool" smiley, but I'm a little odd :yell:
