I'm going to record a couple of tracks at home for our album.
I want to record the dry guitar signal, and then reamp later in the studio.
Before I start, I wanted to check what is the correct signal chain when recording just the dry signal. What is the best way to record without colouring the sound.
a) Guitar - DI box - line in?
b) Guitar - DI box - mic pre - line in?
c) ?
I will be using a state of the art DI box and preamp...
I have M-audio Delta and Creamware Pulsar soundcards to choose from.
Would it be best to get the signal to the computer as loud as possible (without clipping of course) or would that color the sound?
... and in the studio, how would I determine how loud I send the signal to the amp, so that the signal would be the same volume as the guitar would send it.
...Just wanting to make sure, we do everything by the book...
