some people talk about the similarities between katatonia and the cure. i'm not into the cure but want to. i only know some songs like "love song", "fascinations street" .
please give me some suggestions about their music (albums to buy).. at least some songs... thanks

My favorite albums are "Disintigration" and "Pornography".

The song "Apart" off of the album Wish is also extremely good.

While your in the mood for The Cure, you should also check out a Finnish band called This Empty Flow which sounds extremely like "Disintigration" era Cure,... especially the album 'Magenta Skycode".

I have to agree 17 seconds, Faith and Pronography. However their last album bloodflowers is amazing :) And if u are downloading any MP3's get burn from the crow s/t cos that rocks :) Staring at the sea and galore give good overviews, if u wanna get a greatest hits thing, far better than the greatest hits they just released ;)

thanks for the information. it seems i should first check out "pornography" . but what about their last release "bloodflowers" ?? i heard always good critics about it. what do think the katatonia-fans??

...is truly great. it's a part of a trilogy with pornography and disintegration (says R. Smith). i think those are the best of cure as whole albums. good songs they have in every album. those who have the albums should check out cure's non-album b-side tracks, there are a lot of them, and many of them are even better than the album tracks.

btw.
It can't be denied that Robert Smith has influenced Renkse's vocals...well at least I find a lot of similarities in their way of singing...

Bringing up an old thread here.....

Especially on "Help Me Disappear" (Tonight's Music EP), Jonas really sounds like Smith. Playing the EP to a guy who hadn't heard Katatonia before, he thought he was listening to a Cure song he'd never heard of before.

What the!?!? When did Katatonia cease to be a metal band

Comparing Katatonia to the Cure is like comparing...well I can't even come up with anything....

Didn't The Cure have a big hit called "Friday" something a long time ago? I remember being repulsed by that o_O

:loco:

Yes, they've definately had some annoying hits through the years, "Friday" beeing the worst of them all. I agree this song is repulsive, but The Cure (Jonas seems to be a fan) has also had some great mellow and evocative songs. I'm not a big fan of the band, but I must say that "Disintegration" and "Bloodflowers" are worth some listening...

Oh man, it's been a long time since I've heard The Cure. I'll take everyone's advice and download some of it, as well.
