The Halo Effect - New Album 2023/2024

Moonshield, you are a good man !

Got tickets for THE in Glasgow tonight, looking forward to it! Hope it's as good as IF were in October.

I don't think it will be as good. IF hired guns are skilled. In a live setting, Anders entirely omits the creepy vocals, and amps up the harsh vocals. Meanwhile THE doesn't have Jesper live, and let's be honest.. that's who we are there to see.

You'll know how much I like the new THE album, you also know that Pain is a band I grew up with and whose I'm strongly emotionally linked.

It happens that both bands tour together and will be in Paris next thuesday.

I've seen both bands last year in different cities.

Bank account shows -348€, should I go? :err:

According to Niclas, there's no hard feeling between IF and THE. He also thinks it would be awesome touring together with IF.

We need to know the truth Niclas, why has your departure from IF never been officialized, why do Anders systematically refuses to talk about THE.

I think there's only one person in the entire situation that harbours bad feelings at this point, and we all know who that is. THE guys have always been cool about IF when interviewed. Bjorn has lied about not listening to them, but that's probably just to keep a certain someone happy.

The fact that people had to learn about his departure through the Days of the Lost documentary says all that needed to be said there. I respect all the Scandinavians’ professionalism with PR (generally speaking), but I do feel like it’s something we should’ve known through an official statement from him or from the band.

I also think a tour with the two bands would be awesome, but not only would that require a hatchet being buried which never happen, it would likely necessitate the theming of a melodeath titans/nostalgia tour… Which IF isn’t really going to care about in all honesty. Sure, there have been glimmers of that with their setlists, but the level of commitment Anders and co. would need to excitedly do for that just won’t happen.

Sounds like a once in a lifetime experience, but I don’t know that I should say one way or the other given the finances. If you do go though, tell us how it is.

Unfortunately the window for IF and THE to tour together is fairly narrow due to all of the band members being in their 50s or thereabouts. I can't imagine these bands still going when the guys are 60+, particularly from a vocal perspective. So the hatchet between Anders and everybody else would need to be buried pretty soon, most likely.

Can't say I'm that bothered about seeing the two bands tour together though. It'd only be cool if Jesper, Daniel and Peter joined IF set for a couple of classic numbers. Hard to see that happening. Otherwise you've got THE on stage playing proper MDM and IF doing their alt metal shit which is a pale imitation. Maybe it'd work, idk, but I'm happy enough with the two bands going their own thing separately.

Really nice melodic feel like The Burning Point. I don’t have too much to say on it, but it’s great, and that’s what matters. The Japanese are lucky to get all the good shit first from so many bands, but I’ll be happy to buy it when it does officially come out.

Opening sounds like something you'd hear from early-to-mid 2000s In Flames. Not a huge fan of it if I'm honest. Verses are anemic as well. Chorus has some nice melodies, albeit fairly basic in composition.

Can't say this track does much for me. I can see why they put it as a bonus.

Actually, you know what the opening riff reminds me of? No Halos in Hell. I was trying to figure it out for quite a while, but I got it.

Thankfully, the rest of the song is pretty nice, particularly the chorus, but I definitely agree that the track is a bit weaker than the rest of the album instrumentally.

There isn't really much going on. The riffing is pretty basic, a bit metalcore-ish which I don't really want from THE. The track is just a bit simple. Vocals are just there, nothing bad but nothing special either. Couldn't give it much more than a 7/10 personally. They can do far better than that.

I like the kind of solo guitars that they put here. I don't care about simple melodies as long as they can transmit emotion and they did it well.

Have in mind that one of my favourite guitar melodies from IF is the solo from Borders And Shading.
