The Happening

Well, I love Zombie films because they're just that, Zombie Films... the story isn't supposed to matter at all so I can ignore that. All that matters is how much gore and tits can you fit in a film in 20 minutes. Granted, I won't say ALL zombie films are like that, A few have good stories (28 days later comes to mind, although its more of a Viral Outbreak movie, but that still counts).

When it comes to M Night's abortions on the other hand, the story is the for front. He is supposed to be writing Psychological Thriller, a genre that is very very very hard to do. Very few writers can do it right. And he just doesn't have the chops to manage a story in that genre in my eyes...

When there are movies that exist like Jacob's Ladder, The Machinist, American Psycho, Seven, Silence of the Lambs, Cube, etc. etc. etc., I can't help but feel underwhelmed by M Night's bland and predictable story telling.

^ see The Cube for me was expected... (I'm talking about the Canadian one) I knew the retard will go free at the end half way through the movie and that the cop will become insane...

Agreed on the other movies though... I love every single one you mentioned.

Heh, yeah, I suppose Cube was a bit predictable, but it was a total mindfuck all the way through none the less.

Speaking of Psychological Thriller... think I shall rewatch the first 13 episodes of Gantz tonight. If only they stopped at 13...

I don't know what to expect to be honest ... I stay away from online-synopsis websites,
I stay away from promo-videos (only go by what's on TV)
I like to give myself the element of surprise with anything... (why do you think I never download Mp3s of cds before they come out? )

I cannae change your mind but Gone Baby Gone is well worth watching - particularly if you want an unpredictable plot and strong situational ethics. Ben Affleck writes a decent screenplay, whodathunkit?!

Ben Affleck is actually a great screen play writer... Probably spawns from his experiences working with Richard Linklater and Kevin Smith, who most likely tossed him some good advice.

Oh, the Happening is bad. Of all his movies Signs was the only one I even partially enjoyed, and that's because I like aliens. It's a horrible movie.

You know what was good though? Last night's episode of Fear Itself. A lot of people didn't like it, I'm guessing due to the fact that it was a bit more Pyschological than they were expecting (IE: They're expecting cheap thrills and saw clones in this series), but I thought Brad Anderson did a very good job on it, especially with an obviously weaker script that Venne had most likely delivered to him.

Brad shits pure AWESOME.

See, that's why I hate most Hollywood horror movies because they are cheap-thrills and badly made...
I think much like derek, I loved Signs because I love aliens (and admit it derek: wasn't the scene where the alien appeared on the video
from Brazil was AWESOME?!!?!?) but other than the aliens: I found it quite enjoyable...

How was Lady in the Water? I've never seen that one

Please let us know how it is - I'm interested and I'd see it if someone said it was good. Just reluctant because I tend to feel jipped by his movies.

I'm watching all the Weeds episodes...no time for movies right now.

Besides, everything's fucking dubbed here anyway. Fuckers.

I just got back from seeing it and I'm totally confused, did he intend it to be so cheesy? Some of the dialogue was so bad there is no way it could be unintended, and the audience clearly thought it was supposed to be funny. I still don't know if I liked it, the friend I went with LOVED it, clearly, the fact that I'm still trying to decide if I liked it means it has some redeeming qualities, not sure what they are though. At least all the plants in my house got fed when I got home, don't want them trying to kill me..... ah I just found the redeeming quality, the plants got their water.

I actually went and saw this with a friend tonight who begged me to go with, despite what I said earlier...

I honestly don't think that the bad dialogue was intentional. That had M. Night written all over it.

HORRID MOVIE. Not even good for the cheap thrill...
