It's that time of the year again. Every year about this time I get an uncontrollable urge to hear this album. It will be in heavy rotation for a couple of weeks then retire until next year. That is all.
For me there is something simply magic (not to mention ripe with nostalgia) about this album that makes it a perfe3ct fit for this time of year. Everything is dying outside, temps are dropping, etc. There are a myriad of albums that go well with the season, but this one somehow must be played each year.
I've never liked it, just because it didn't reach the heights of Tales or Elegy, but with some time passed, I should blow of the dust and give it another spin. I remember buying it for cheap from the relapse store many years ago.
I've heard Tales a hundred times but only listened to TKI once or twice... I should probably listen to it more and decide what I think of it. I can't really remember what I thought of it. Other than liking Tales better.
While Tales is slightly more dynamic, they are both quite similar IMO. The biggest difference is the production. TKI sounds a little more raw and has a murkier feel to it. If it weren't for that and the addition of the clean vocals on Tales, I believe these albums would be viewed as being a lot more compatible than they are today.
