How do you get that "Tick" sound on the bass drum like whats the proper EQ'ing or am I totally off do I have to re record it?

Thanks man ya with the mic were using right now i doubt we'll be able to get anything better than what we got. Thanks again!

pre:
tune the kicks head as low as possible
place the mic inside the kick near the head where the beater hits the skin.
wood or plastic beaters.
falam pad
post:
try searching between around 5-6k for the beater "smack" with a med Q.
scoop a bit around 350Hz.
compress with around 15-35 ms attack, fast release.

parallel compression is also really nice for supporting it (fast atk and rel high ratio)

just buy a d6.... you're done.

It also helps to have the right drum, head, and beaters, and tune it right.

Use a plastic or wood beater in combination with a kick pad if you want a lot of "tick". Or just use a kick pad, because you'll damage the head by playing with the hard beaters.

Aside from good mic techniques and EQing, the best trick I know is to pick up a Danmar Metal kick pad. Being a drummer myself, I swear by them! You can buy them at Musicians Friend for about $10. Don't bother using the adhesive on the back of the pad though because it'll fall off the skin after about 5 minutes of playing. Just get some good tape (preferably a fabric tape used on hockey sticks, or duct tape will do in a jiff) and you're good to go. Just be sure to use to plastic side of the beater... wooden beaters will break and felt beaters just won't do the trick!

i've heard from some people that the kick pads wear heads out even faster than without

and if you don't want to get the pad, or need an instant solution, taping a quarter to the head can work as well...basically, you want to have something solid hit the drum head to get a tight, percussive sound

as for EQ, everyone approaches it a little different, but i like to throw on a high shelf at around 3-4k for the kick...to me it sounds a little more natural than a standard boost
