so i got a new job at a studio, the thing is, they are only equiped to add vocals to backing tracks etc... they have a 12in interface and would like to take advantage...

so i persuaded the owner to let me make him a list of mics and shit i want him to get, so that we can record full bands including drum kits, guitars etc...

so i got a few ideas on wat i wanna put in the list.. BUT..

i wanna know what you guys have for recording your drums and what you think is best for the price.!

GO GO GO :D

Well I'm in the same boat as GuitarGod, in that I only have a 57 and 58 right now, but I've been compiling my dream list for QUITE some time, and it's as follows:

2x Audio-Technica AT4033's (for OH's and one for vox)
2x Audio-Technica AT3031's (for hi-hat and ride)
2x Sennheiser e604's (rack toms)
Audix D4 (floor tom, though I'm planning on using my 58 for this purpose to cut costs)
Audix D6 (Kick, though I'm planning on just buying a $40 dynamic mic to use as a trigger, once again to cut costs)
Audix i5 (for the sake of variety)

for drums i would go like this:

Kick: Audix D6 / Sennheiser e602/Shure Beta52
snare Top: Shure Sm 57/ Audix i5
Snare bottom: Shure Beta 57/akg C1000
Toms: Sennheiser e604
Hi Hat:Shure sm 81
Ride: Shure Sm 58 (nice raw bell sound)
OH: Sm 81

and maybe a couple of extra sm57 they are at least "usable" for everything.

Kick - Audix D6 or Shure Beta 52

Snare - Beyer M201 or Shure Beta 57

Toms - 421s, Have had good results with SM7s on floor and Beta57s on rack aswell.

Overheads - Neumann KM184s or AKG C451s

Spot Mics - SM81s or Rode NT5s

staples:

Kick: D112 or D6
Snare: SM57
Toms: MD421
OH & Close Cymbals: akg451
Rooms: Best condensors you can afford

Well here is my actual list:

snare: sm57 top sennhiser e609 on bottom
OH: Studio Projects C1 pair
Toms: Audix F10s
Kick: AKG D112
Guitars: 2 sm57s and on occasion the e609
Bass: D112
Vocals: SP C1 same as the overheads

Dream list (shit dat I wants):

Kick: Yamaha sub kick, Audix D6, and Beyer M88
Snare: Sm57 and AKG 414EB (depending on the drumer and song) for top and I honestly don't have a strong opinion for the bottom
Toms: Sennhiser MD421
OH: Nueman U87 (mmm, fucking exspensive!), AKG 451, Shure SM81 <--- In that order
Room: Dunno haven't done the reasearch gonna go with don't let me drown's answer

Let's see I have
ADK TC (This mic is amazing on vocals)
Audix i5 (I prefer this to the SM57 on guitars)
SM57
Rode NT1-A (Great as backing vox, and a room mic for drums) I've heard 2 of these used as overheads on drums, a long with a kick mic, and a thats it, and the drums sounded really good. I would have probably added a Snare mic, like an SM57 or an Audix i5. But, I can't stress the value of room acoustics enough!
Audix Fusion 7 Peice
SE Eletronics SE1A (matched stereo pair for acoustics and drum overheads)

Having great mics makes a big difference on the mixing stage!
