Seriously, who the fuck is whinging about this album? OK, it's not quite as good as Rebirth but give it time....

This is power metal supreme deluxe with added bacon and mozzarrella!!! And those songs featuring Kai Hansen and Hansi Kursch RULE!

Man, I forgot just how good those two guitarists are as well. It all reminds me why ProgPower III was the best one yet.

Thanks Zod. I shall be buying this album now.

Cool! Just picked it up today.

I never really got into Andre Matos as a vocalist. In fact, I'd say he annoys me with his high pitched wailing.

Rebirth is my favourite Angra album, and to be honest, I actually think Holy Land is overrated!

Also, Edu Fulaschi sounds more like Bruce Dickinson than ever before, in fact I think he's making a concious effort to add a bit of 'gruff' to his vox. I can't believe he lost the Maiden audition to Blaze Bailey!

Believe it or not, I actually very much enjoy Matos as a vocalist. And old Angra is one of the few power metal bands I actually really enjoy, especially Holy Land. Matos is as close to an opera singer, as any metal singer Ive heard.

I read somewhere once, "Andre Matos is a human dog whistle". Heh.

Yeah he aint bad, I just prefer the new guy and the new stuff. I think that first Shaman album is alright though. (is there more than one?).

This new Angra album isn't straight up power metal though, there is lots of prog in it, and of course the obligatory brazillian folk elements.

Interestingly enough, the song with Kai Hansen sounds a bit like a Gamma Ray blitzkrieg, and the song with Hansi Kursch sounds like a bit like a Blind Guardian folky twiddly doo, even with this nice long piano section in the middle.

Man, I forgot just how much Hansi and Kai rule. I'm pulling out some Blind Gaydian and Ramma Gay this weekend when I get home.

Thats exactly why I like Angra, they are one of the only power/prog bands to seemlessly incorporate folk into their arrangements.

Well well....now I'm a believer. I just listened to this all the way from Chicago back to NY. In the car, on the plane, and on the train. I'd say about six times straight in a row....haven't done that with an album since The August Engine.

I am floored at how good this is, whether it be from the Brazilian flamenco, violins & piano interludes, or just plain fucking unbelievable guitar wizardry (oozing with a ton of emotion). And then you have the dashes of folk, female choirs, cellos, fretless bass, all wrapped in speed metal envelope.

And believe me, the envelope has been pushed.

I suppose I better review this formally, but in a nutshell, this album is flawless in its genre.

Dare I say it...."Album of the Year"? Certainly top 3.

Anyone want to hook a poor brother up with a CDR so I can make an informed decision?
Send me your snail mail (to my RC address).

Interestingly, when listening to it for the 2nd time yesterday, I was thinking Top 3 as well. Everytime I listen to it, I find something new about it I really like.

Oddly, the early reviews on the PM:X board were killing Edu's vocals. Which I don't get at all. I think he found a comfort level on this CD, that he didn't have on "Rebirth", and just rips it up.

Side note: Angra is my odds on favorite to headline PPVI. My early PPVI prediction (in no particular order):

Angra
Symphony X
Evergrey
Jag Panzer
Zero Hour
Balance of Power and/or Pyramaze
Sonata Artica
Mercenary or After Forever

So let me get this straight, you've only listened to this twice?! o_O I can't put it down. The whole experience is phenomenal on headphones.

Let me ask - is this a Sascha Paeth and Miro production? It has their trademark 'cinematic' feel all over the place, especially on the instrumental overture (what a stunning piece of work).

I think on Rebirth, he was trying to fill the shoes of Matos. Now, he's come into his own element, and yes, suddenly elevated into a serious 'best vocalist' contender. The trade off's and harmonies between him and Kai or Hansi are breathtaking. Even the song featuring that chick from Edenbridge must have about 5 harmonies going on.

Again, put the headphones on and a whole new world opens up.

Glenn really needs to sort out the Iced Earth invite as well. It's been long enough.

By the way, before ordering this, does anyone know if there's more than just the jewel case version? Is there a nice digi-pak alternative? I can only find the jewel case....

Holy shit, it's being released with the live Rebirth tour DVD for $16???????

Does anybody want to buy my live DVD then?

Not certain. Though I do like Sascha and Miro's sound.

Yep, totally agree.

I would love that but doubt it will happen unless they change management companies. Although I'm sure he'd make an exception for IE, as I understand it, Glenn likes to bring in acts that:

a. have a new CD out
b. don't tour the U.S. frequently

I could see Demons & Wizards playing PPVI.
