I just wrote a paper for my cosmic evolution class about a new planet some astronomers found orbiting a red giant. It'll be pretty lame when our Sun is sixteen times the size of a full moon in the sky... especially when the oceans dry up and Earth gets consumed by an enormous fireball. :(

Not in our lifetime. Though yes, the fact that life will be extinguished is a downer. I'm sure we'll kill ourselves off long before we have to worry about that though.
