germoney.
It is somehow strange: Everytime I bought something today, I got only old money, but no €uros in return. You don't even get the impression that there's a new currency...I hope this will change. Did some of you experience the same?

yes they (we) do. at least the participating countries (there's always some assholes thinking they should better not invoke... it could have been the major chance of europe). it's called euro and the currency sign is €. fear, oh mighty dollar!

Ey! No need to call us assholes! :)
And BTW, the assholes (in the EU) are Great Britain, Sweden and Denmark...

-phyros (no asshole, and still understanding humour)

(ASSHOLES! I WAS SO HAPPY I SHOULDN'T EXCHANGE MONEY COMING AT YOU'S...BWAAA BWAAA)

Ehm, as for Euro(tica), today at the departement store I got Euro back from Lire.
I used to have paper, now I have coins. Too many.
I used to feel rich....oh, the italian golden dream of reflation is gone forever .....*sigh*

Assholes for not converting to something that might go bust?

I don't see your point there, but then again you're German, and your country stands to gain a lot from the Euro.

I heard that you cannot pay with Euro-COINS from your own country in other participating Euro-countries, only with the paper-Euros. Does anyone know is that true or just rumor?

it's of course false !
but one face of the coin is specific to the country where the coin has been "printed" (i don't know the correct english word for that)

i went out only 1 time and i have already germans coins ...
go away germans ! stop invading us :)

Hah... I'm still bit confused about €uro's.. :p I do think they're useful when you travel on some other european country (stupid Swedes did not participate, some humor for Phyros :D.. ). But also, this is so god damn confusing when some places give back Finnish marks when I'm giving then euro's. And some places give euro's when buying with marks. The sellers are fucking slow because they're obviously even more confused than I am (except at McDonalds).
Hmm.. I just wished this changing to euro period is soon over..
Bought cd's today... Including Heavenly - Coming From The Sky. Price was 8€ but the seller went crazy when I payed with marks.. So after I counted my money at home I noticed that the album costed only 6€ to me..

Ey Peiikko! No! Not more of that stupid satire! You finns are all a bunch of knife-throwing, sauna bathing and vodka drinking peiikkos!!

-phyros (laughing his arse of :D )

I really dislike the Euro, I wish the folk of Germany would have been asked, most of them would have been against it...
One thing for sure, the Euro is not a wining thing for Germany, infact we are on a loose with it!
Good to see some countries didn't join that shit!

sure, it has some risks to join the €. but imagine a us of a where 90% of the people share one currency and the rest use their own. this is bullshit. either all, or nobody. well, at least it's a step in the right direction. i don't see the point in refusing the €. sure, the costs are immense at first, and people will have to get used to it, but once this is done, europe will get a little closer together.

it's <alt Gr> + <e>, similar to @

silkie and tombombadil, would you care to give a reason why you think the euro is worthless?

sounds generally fuckin confusing to me. Ah.......the good ol us dollar, so easy to use hehe (sometimes much to easy, like on Amazon.com in the CD section......:D ) lol.

By the end of the year it is believed that the Euro will have reached the value of USD!

And I bellieve that this coin has two sides:
On the one hand we have the feature of making things so simple (if you exclude the first period confusion). I want to order something from abroad? Euro is the way to compare how much cheaper or more expensive it is! It is a good point of reference about the salaries/the cost of living etc...

On the other hand we have the slow but steady steps to globalization, which I believe is actually an effort for lack of personality in the civilians. I dont like borders. Or countries. But everyone thinks according to the enviroment he grows up in!

But that is another issue....:D

Actually, the Finnish people left out the 1 and 2 cent coins and rounded every price to an even amount. This is really cool, since the prices in other €uro countries are ridiculous like € 24,87 or something. Although I think this will eventually change, and we'll have even prices again. Rounded up, of course. :(

i hate this € because it doesn't have any sense for me
and because for example 1 austrian € is NOT 1 german €
there are differences of ~0,10 €

Ah.......the good ol us dollar, so easy to use hehe
this is one of the main ideas behind the €-introduction: a uniform currency in Europe to be economically more competitive with other world markets and more homogenous within Europe itself. which WON'T EVER work out IMHO, cos Europe has a different understanding of countries' identities, as I see it. The US are the UNITED states - Europe won't ever turn into this utopia of a thoroughly European UNION, because of a different understanding of (counties' ) individuality and belonging-together: everybody is aware that we all make or sum up to EUROPE - geographically - but I don't think a French would voluntarily say he's German, or an Irish he's British, or a German he's Austrian, a Finnish he's Swedish - only as some examples.
so, the € will probably work in SOME way but not the way it was supposed to do, IMO.
