The Official "How was the Hellish Rock Show" at ProgPower 9?

I'd been waiting to see Helloween for 20 years and last Thursday night, that dream finally became a golden reality! They did not disappoint me at all! BTW, Gamma Ray was brilliant as well, and manticora sounded better than ever!

Helloween were amazing on this tour.
Great performances.
Great setlist.

I think people are failing to see that simply because (and I agree 100%) Gamma Ray were f*cking amazing!

That being said, I think Helloween are getting a bit of unnecessary lashing around here.

They could probably pull it off though.

I agree, they probably could.

Though, let's face the facts here........

Kai LEFT Helloween.
Started a highly successful and respected band in Gamma Ray.

What would be the satisfaction for Kai in performing Walls of Jericho in its entirety.

Don't get me wrong. I have loved WOJ ever since it came out.
Helloween were one of the first non-US underground metal bands I ever got into. They crafted a speed metal classic.

I know the comment was simply casual in nature, and I don't mean to jump over the person who made it. Just saying that I wouldn't want them to do it, because I simply don't think it would be from the heart. He has certainly acknowledged his time in Helloween enough through the years in live Gamma Ray performances.

Of course, as my comment was casual in nature, I could care less if they did it. Basically, I just mean they are proficient enough to do it. But yeah, if you were there Thursday, that's painfully obvious that they have more than adequate chops to do a speed metal album.

Plus really, if they'd wanted to do it, they would have done something similar to what they did with Blast From the Past.

Course, now I'm gonna wander off in confusion wondering what we're even debating here, lol.

Here's a crappy cell phone pic from the Pearl Room in Mokena...

Manticora was great IMO, although I have heard some people say they didn't like them for the singer. He did have a sore throat, but anyway... to be there without their second guitarist and to still pull off the show... not a bad feat. For those who haven't... check out their first 3 discs. As good as early Labyrinth to me. Gamma Ray was great too, as was Helloween. Had seen GR a couple years back at PP, never had seen Helloween before. Overall a great night. :kickass:

Thanks for sharing that.....
I completely forgot about the whole PULL THE CORD incident!!!!!

One correction to your setlist.
HELLOWEEN did not play IF I COULD FLY in Mokena.

I assume it was dropped since they started so late.

Oh crap, yeah when I sent it to the guy it was messed up, then I got the corrected setlist later, I guess he didn't get a chance to fix it.

Yeah that dude with the cord, hahahaha. He must have the patience of a saint, hahaha. Ahh good times :D

And yeah, Manticora did a really good job, I wasn't familiar with their stuff beyond a couple older videos I saw on youtube a few weeks before going to Atlanta, but it was a lot of fun. I've seen some shows with really bad openers, and Atlanta was not one of them by any means :)

I was there in Hollywood last night. Gamma Ray flat out OWNED the night. Andi has excellent stage presence but was straining on most of the Kiske-era stuff. Just my opinion. On the other hand, Kai Hansen is simply mesmerizing to watch. And the Gammaween/Helloray finale was priceless. Seeing Hansen and Weiketh standing back-to-back shredding and smiling was worth the price of admission.

Those of you who are still undecided about seeing this tour, go get your tix and see this show before it's too late! Their ATL tour stop ranks among my Top 10 favorite concerts EVER, and I've seen hundreds of bands play live in person.

That was the same for Seattle as well. My face hurt after Gamma Ray's set and it took me a while to realize it was because I was smiling so much during it :D

I smiled a ton before, during, and after the Hellish Rock show in ATL. What a feelgood rock-n-roll event that was!:worship:rock::kickass:

I'm still smiling, that was the feckin most awesome night ever! God what a brilliant show! I wish I could have seen them every damn stop on this tour.

If I had the money and time... I might well have tried to haha. I love seeing great bands, and I knew they would be good, but my GOD. They were just flat out AMAZING.

:D
