The Onion: Victim In Fatal Car Accident Tragically Not Glenn Beck

In one sense you're right. He's not a genuine political commentator (if any could be said to be genuine), he's a stand-up comedian by profession. Since he's not really all that funny though, he's found a niche being a blowhard, and as soon as O'Reilly dies from hubris, he'll have the entire market share. Whether he's business savvy or not is somewhat irrelevant, though, because he's being dishonest, selling a dishonest viewpoint that influences people who are, let's face it, intellectually lazy and couldn't be bothered to look up the relevant facts. I'm bothered by this, because I livie in the country where it's happening. These same intellectually lazy people have both religious zeal and voting power. This isn't something to be brushed off as some cunning plan he's got for personal success.

I figure we live in the country we deserve because we didn't try hard enough to choose anything better.

Well having only two choices on the ballot isn't a problem of the American people, at least I wouldn't think it would be.

All of America's problems can be summed up thusly:

Our system needs to be dramatically changed in almost every facet of government and society. The other problem is that many Americans want to keep everything the same, which is just exacerbating the problems.

My last presidential ballot had quite a few names on it. I didn't vote for either of the two you are thinking of. As to whether or not the system needs radical overhaul, that really depends on whether or not the majority of voters find the existing one intolerable.

Therein lies the rub.

Whether they do or not, it's irrelevant. It is broken. Political organisation in most "civilised" countries is, by my reckoning, utterly backward. None of the people in charge can express how I feel, none of them come close to identifying with me. In Europe we're a tad lucky insomuch as there are at least some shades of grey. Over in the US of A you have either black or white and that's it.
