The photography thread

Hey guys, some really nice photos in here. I thought I would share one of mine I took yesterday.
Here's a picture of my main guitar ESP LTD SC207. I'm no 'pro' or anything with photos but I think it turned out very nice after layering it and blending layers in Photoshop.

Probably the only time someone from England has ever been asked that question! Was a stunning day when those were taken, lucked into it! :)

Also, great stuff everyone, I hadn't even looked through some of the stuff on the previous pages until now.

Stupid tip off the day- Tin foil makes a great reflector for your on board flash so you can fire at the ceiling. Seriously did not expect it to work or look good, but god damn it does!

Yeah, I've got one already, the tin foil is no replacement  just a quick fix when I can't access my main flash, I was just totally shocked it was powerful enough to properly light the room and cool down the white balance.

I think next on my list is another flash and some wireless triggers :)

Ah, I see. I tried making a miniature light tent/soft box to just slip over the pop up flash for times I didn't have my external flash. Worked pretty good too. :)

Make a DIY diffuser for your external flash(es). I got the idea from a blog someone did about them, using bubble wrap. I decided that's not diffuse enough and used some thin, white packing foam that I have around work many times. I'll try to think to take a picture of mine so you get the idea. They work FANTASTIC too. Even if you don't have a remote and you have to use the flash mounted to the camera, it still works fantastic. It really softens the light and the shadows. When you use them on two off camera flashes, it works beautifully. We (my little photography club we have at work) did a shoot out, comparing these DIY things to shoot-through umbrellas. Of course, the umbrellas looked better. But, not THAT MUCH better. And they're definitely a lot more portable than umbrellas. I just fold them up and put them in my camera bag.

Thanks exoslime!

That sounds like a really good idea Mark! I'd love to see a picture, I was thinking of getting a gary fong lightsphere but I don't think I want to pay $100 or so for a piece of rubber haha. I love diy stuff like this that works and is more practical than something 100x as expensive. :)

^^NICE! I like both, but I think I like the red stairs pic the most.

@Joe...sorry I took so long. I took these pictures the day I mentioned the diffusers, but just got around to dumping pictures off my camera last night (had a ton of pictures). Here's the DIY foam flash diffuser. I just used some thin (approximately 3 or 4mm thick), translucent packing foam that I find laying around work all the time. The original project I saw used bubble wrap, but I think this makes a much more diffuse light. Almost like a shoot-through umbrella.

Just cut out a long strip of it (size will depend on your flash) and attach velcro on the front and back (see the pictures):

Folded over, so you can see how the velcro is attached. This is also how it will be mounted on the flash:

Wrapped around the flash:

Use with the flash head pointed UP for the most diffuse light. This works fine with the flash mounted to the camera's hotshoe, but works fantastic when you take your flash off camera. It's almost like a small, portable shoot-through umbrella.

ALERT GEAR PORN
Had some photo's done by a good friend of mine to update my website with. I'm also a bit of a T-Shirt nerd and got this limited edition shirt (only 50 made) so I had to take advantage of the shoot and get some photo's of it. ( I treasure this shirt like a piece of gear, weirdo.)
