The pics thread

I think Woody Allen's "tragedy + time = comedy" also applies to this. Not that the fact that people are dying is funny, that's horrible of course, but it's the same kind of principle which makes it hard to feel anything for people you have no connection to. If it happens right in front of your eyes or at least in the sphere of your life it's different of course.

I took a class called Comic Spirit, and on the first day, the professor was talking about how tragedy and comedy, in greek, come from similar words and concepts. Tragedy over time, as Woody Allen said, is comedy. Our professor used the NASA Challenger explosion. "What does NASA stand for? Need Another Seven Astronauts!" to show his point

I think I was the only person who laughed.

All look same?

I don't see any resemblance there.

No, I thought the guy holding the sword looked like Charlie Murphy. He is a bit darker though.

Anyway, more pics.

Astaroth of Raventale (all 3)

Can I just say that I understand regarding this sort of thing with disgust, but that I don't find it all that amusing? These tribes warring in Kenya seem doomed to a fate of degeneration and strife at their own hands (I'm not going to pretend to be very informed about what's going on over there), but I don't really think there's anything all that funny about it. It's fucking disturbing that there are human beings living like this. What's funny about dudes hacking some guy up with machetes? What a fucking miserable existence these people have, and I'm not trying to be some bleeding heart but I just can't understand laughing at it.
It's funny because they are black and black people are stereotypically violent. I'm with you that it's not funny, but I figure that's what people who do think it is funny are thinking.

I personally cringe inside when using terms like "black" and "white" because I think race is a stupid way to classify people.

That is true, to an extent. I remember this time in Elementary school encountering a black guy that was lighter than me, and being completely puzzled by him calling me white. I was young, so I had no idea what race was, so I simply said something like "what? You're white, I'm black."

But still you can afford a computer and an internet connection for example, which you don't really need at all to survive, if you don't use them in your job of course. Things like that makes you middle class compared to most of the world. I'm not preaching by the way, I'm on the don't care-side. I'm just tired of all these hypocrite PC-people.
If the warring tribes shifted their priorities, I'm sure they could afford computers too. It's not like those guns are cheap.

If a white guy were running around in that situation with a bright orange life jacket, it would still be funny.
