It's not too far from the kind of thing I've seen in southeast Asian food. I think it could be pretty good, depending on how the flavors are balanced.
 
Curry Chicken Étouffée w/Mushrooms:

It began just like any other étouffée, with a roux and the holy trinity of onion, celery, and bell pepper (plus garlic).

Here, the chicken has been braised, then shredded and returned to the pan:

Note that it didn't change colour from that first picture; it's just different lighting.
 
They have it occasionally at a place called Yat's. Whenever they have it when I come there, that's what I'm gonna get, because it's not an opportunity that comes around often. So, this was my attempt at replicating it, and I was pretty damn successful, I'd say.
