Hetfield was such a good thrash singer on like ride the lightning, idk what happened. It's like he lost all feel for pitch and phrasing.

I read he just became somewhat disinterested with thrash, prefers more countryish stuff. Makes a lot of sense when assessing Load/ReLoad.
