I'll lead you through Imageshack, it's easier.

Step one: Find the pic.
Step two: Right click on the pic, hit Copy Image Location (in Firefox, which if I remember right, you're using.)
Step three: http://imageshack.us/
Step four: Click the URL button thing, paste the URL
Step five: Check the Resize Image checkbox, and choose "100x75 (avatar)"
Step six: Hit upload. Copy the "Direct link to image" URL
Step seven: In your User CP, under edit avatar, paste the URL in the appropriate box. (self explanatory)

Yay! You're done! Keep in mind that .gif files aren't allowed and it has to be less than 6.8 kb. If the file size is too big, let me know.
