Met-Al;
I for one think Anette is actually an UPGRADE.
Agreed!

I for one think Anette is actually an UPGRADE. I actually think Anette could do the earlier classics better than Tarja because Tarja lacked the maturity in her voice when she made them, and never really recovered. Also, Anette WANTS to be there! You always felt an aloofness with Tarja, that she was not really enjoying what she was doing. You can here the joy in this band. Hence, it will be a better act lobg term.

I think some people are letting the whole brew-ha-ha color their opinion. Fact is, vocally, Anette isn't even close to being an "upgrade". Fact is, I find Anette's voice to be quite generic. I'd probably have a hard time differentiating her from the rest of the pack. Whatever you think of Tarja personally, she was a great singer.

That's not saying that she won't be good for Nightwish. I'll have to wait until the full album comes out to see how she works out in general. But, at least with the one song that I've heard, she isn't in the top rung of singers in the genre, IMO.

Though I came to Nightwish because of Tarja's vocals, I STAYED because of the music. Let's face it: If it was not for Nightwish, there would be no way I would have even HEARD of ProgPower, nevermind buying 2 Gold Badges to go to it. I also would not have been open to Sonata, Strato, Kamelot and others.
So, Nightwish opened a huge door for this 40-something rocker.
Agreed. One can't help but wonder why the band had to make the extremely personal reasons for the breakup so public (to turn fans against Tarja perhaps?). Way too many people are letting this soap opera stuff get to their heads. I frankly don't give a shit how much wonderful fun the band members are having being friends with each other, unless it sounds good, which in this case, sadly, I don't think it does.
Correcting your typo. "Drunk" should have been plural. Trust me, I saw them.Because Tarja was, and remains, an icon in Finland. There would have been a huge firestorm from President Halonen on down to the town drunks living in the box behind the Kitee ALKO if they HADN'T relesed the "Open Letter". That letter calmed the waters. What it also did was call out Tarja's true colors. Remember, for all of Tarja's tears of woe, she has NEVER ONCE REPUDIATED any of the charges that were made in the "Open Letter". She basically held up the fact that she was the equivalent of Terrell Owens in the Nightwish dressing room. Forget Marcelo. As Tarja's manager, he is supposed to look out for his clients' interests.
Peace,
Ray C.

You think this band does not sound good? How good do you think this band would sound if everyone were at each other's throats? Bands go through lineup changes all the time. How many people would be worshipping Iced Earth if Gene Adam, who refused singing lessons, was allowed to stay? If things go bad, you need to make a change. If things go bad in the dressing room, and if it is the cancer or the patient(band), would you kill the patient?
Peace,
Ray C.
Agreed. However, it goes the other way, too.
Regardless of how boring (or great) Anette's voice is to fans, it doesn't mean the new album won't be good. Tuomas writes amazing music. As I've said before, I can't say enough good things about the music I've heard so far.
The good thing is that bands can usually survive a lead singer leaving if the main songwriting team stayed intact. It is when songwriters change that you really should fear the future of a band
