The Pre-Party is officially NO MORE (A message from Glenn & Shane)

I think this is a superb idea; I also think that this past pre-party was the first showcase, as Circus Maximus stole that show (I like Zak and all, but c'mon "Glory of the Empire" was dead on, as was "The Prophecy" and others).

This is a fabulous idea (and keeps my hopes up for seeing Freak Kitchen two years in a row.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to revel in the fact that before the last fest I started a thread suggesting that based on the success of the pre-party and the constant sell-outs that it was time for ProgPower to become a 3 day festival. And EVERY single person who responded had to take the attitude of 'that's not a good idea, just let Glenn do his thing, you don't understand what goes into it, etc' (as if I was saying it to be critical of Glenn and the festival or somthing). Now its all 'WOW, amazing, great idea!' That's all I'm gonna say on that topic. Glenn - I think this is a fantastic move that is going to add a whole new dimension to the festival. Damn I wish I had somehow saved that thread ;)

Before you pat yourself on the back too hard, it still is a SEPERATE event, AFAIK (Glenn, Shane, please correct me if I'm wrong), and always was the unofficial 1st day of Prog power. I think the name change just reflects that it has permanently moved to the main stage, allowing more people in, better stage/lights/sound instead of booking a "bar" show. I think a lot of the reasons to NOT make PP a 3 day event are still valid.

Absolutely amazing news! I remember strongly regretting not getting a pre-party ticket when I jumped onto the ProgPower bandwagon back in May - then positively jumping up and down when the show was moved to the mainstage and tickets went back on sale. Shane and Glenn, you guys do a fabulous job, thank you so much. I daresay I'll take this opportunity to drag metalheads in training to the pre-party and expose them this strange festival I talk about all the time...

Cool! I also like the fact that it still gives some of the "underdogs" a chance too! Seen some pretty unknown cool bands that way!

I have to agree with JayDub and Dave on this one -- Freak Kitchen stole the festival, they would be AWESOME to have back! Shut the fuck up JayDub. ;)Yes, I know you were right!!! :kickass: :kickass:

Great news! Congrats Shane! :headbang: The title scared the shit out of me as well! Is it going to have the same hours and remain 4 bands or will the hours change and # of bands increase to 5, like the main festival? Will it still be a separate ticket or be included with the main festival, to become a 3-day priced ticket/GB? I know that this was mentioned before (for the Pre-Party), but there should definitely be a PP Showcase t-shirt as well!

Excellent news! I also freaked when I saw the title of the thread. Here's another wish for Freak Kitchen headlining next year, that would ROCK!

That's a very cool idea, and I'm 100% for it... but what, then, will be the difference between Shane's night and Glenn's nights? Just curious.

Good call by you & you're right everyone shot you down ( except myself...I did not comment thereby probably negating these comments...but anyways) and now it looks like the bandwagoneers are...well...jumping on the bandwagon. My hat is off to you. This is a good move by the promoter...obviously this year was the trial run & the response was positive. Some new & upcoming acts with a tried & true headliner is an insanely great addition to PP.

Only if they headline...otherwise 4th slot main gig. I've nominated these guys before, but they didn't have alot going on in previous years. They've got some buzz this year...new lineup, new release that kicks major ass. And their back catalog of material is very good...some definitive songs for American power metal. Just like Kings X in prog metal, they never got proper recognition.

Maybe Pain of Salvation will get a headline spot? I know Dubya and I would be stoked...

Oh sure, feed the Anti-PoS troll! I'd be stoked to call it a night before the first note! :puke: :heh:

Edit: Count my vote, fwiw, for Vicious Rumors as well, just as long as they don't bump the Swedes....

Congrats to Shane on the killer news...

And, after experiencing my 1st PP this year, I gotta admit, outta the 3 nights, the PreParty was by far the night I got into the most trouble and had the most fun.... (some KNOW what I'm referring to..hehehehe)

100% Correct.

To answer a few questions:

1. The ticket is seperate.
2. The difference in shows is that Shane will have unsigned bands along with being able to break the "two year rule" while I will not.
3. Metal Karaoke will become a permanant fixture on Wed night.
