I'd been meaning to check these guys out for years, and I finally got the chance when I collected a 2 CD anthology of theirs for Christmas.

"Man on the Silver Mountain" is one of the best songs ever written. I was hooked right from the opening chords :headbang:.

So far I prefer the Dio era stuff to the Bonnett/Lynn Turner years, even though "Eyes of The World", "I Surrender" and "Street of Dreams" all have their moments. It's a shame RJD ever left, but if he hadn't we wouldn't have got Heaven and Hell or Holy Diver.

I dont own any Rainbow stuff, but Angel Dust do a cover of Temple Of The King and its AMAZING :OMG:

Rainbow = :headbang:

Ritchie Blackmore + Ronnie James Dio = One of the best Guitar/Singer combos EVAH!

You need to get all of the Dio era albums.

Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow was the first, and the best songs are Temple of the King and Catch the Rainbow in my opinion. This album doesnt have any of the real Epic tracks that were to come later on.

Long Live Rock and Roll is home to one of the best Rainbow songs in GATES OF BABYLON :headbang: The instrumental passage in that songis a dead set spine tingler. You would love it Spawn. The guitar tone that Blackmore uses is beautiful.... Just has an awesome atmosphere. Rainbow Eyes is another great song off the album. It is the closing track and an awesome ballard that shows off Dios amazing Voice. the other highlight is Kill the King. Crazy Guitar solo

Rainbow Rising is my favorite album from this band. Altough there are only 6 (or 7) songs.... It has my all time favorite Rainbow song in STARGAZER :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: This song is a fuckin classic. The way Dio adlibs at the end of the song is right up there with the Ending of A Question of Heaven. Light in the Black again has some crazy guitar passages. Awesome album closer.

The albums that followed with Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner were not as good as the first 3. Although, as you said... Eyes of the World is a great track.

But, see if you can locate the 1995 Rainbow album called STRANGER IN US ALL. It has Doogie White on vocals, and it fuckin rules. Not quite as good as the Dio era, but shits over Joe Lynn era Rainbow. See if you can download Ariel, Hunting Humans, or Hall of the Mountain King or Black Masquerade. All classic songs I reckon.

Man on the Silver Mountain is OK, but nowhere near the greatest Rainbow song. Wait till Gates of Babylon, Stargazer, Light in the Black, Kill the King etc hit you... Awesome, Awesome stuff.
Blackmore RULES

I just had a look at that CD you bought. The first CD shits over the 2nd. The first is really good and has most of the songs that I highlighted above.

I love the Druming in Catch the Rainbow when the chorus is repeated.

Yngwies version of Gates Of Babylon is fantastic, I havent heard the original though.
