Ok, so he's not gonna see this, but anyways...upon hearing Choirs of the Eye, he said it 'lacks form', or is 'formless', as in random and confused. (I didn't agree)

*holds out the microphone*

So how would you reply? Be creative.
 
umm i would say that "Choirs of the Eye"'s entire point is the construction of its form. a lot more thought seems put into it than almost any other album i've heard in quite some time.
 
I'd point out the fallacy in believing that music should adhere to a set form, and then explain how the album challenges, subverts, and deconstructs those notions.

Or you could just go the typical progsnob route: "you're not smart enough to get it."
 
My father will make somewhat negative comments about some of the music i put on when I'm driving the car on family vacations and then he will proceed to put in Blue Oyster Cult's Greatest Hits.
Ok, "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Burning For You" are catchy songs, but the rest of them make me queezy.
