The Republican National Convention

These people are so incredibly full of shit. The ENTIRE thing thus far has been about nothing but terrorism. Where are the fucking issues? Tell me why your administration doesn't suck, why you should be given another four years to run this country into the ground....

This is such shit, I don't feel any safer now than I did four years ago, or 25 years ago for that matter. Islamic terrorism has existed since I was born and I've survived for 30 years thus far...

I noticed during the democratic convention the political analysts were talking about the speeches afterwards. So far, these guys don't even seem to be paying attention to the speeches, perhaps because there IS NO substance.

And that Iraqi woman was just ridiculous, having her use phrases like, "Saddam used every weapon in his arsenal against us...."

I am SO over all of this, if shit was so bad, have a fucking civil war, like my ancestors did and lay claim to your own. But, oh, McClain would get to that in his, long, drawn out speech that damn near put me to sleep. Is this the same McCain that was blasting Bush four years ago? How come McCain isn't scrutinized for his changing of his mind the same way Kerry is?

And how about those pathetic "9/11" widows? Horrendously reading from teleprompters, these women act as if Bush was noble for simply being the president that day. Like Clinton or Gore or Kerry wouldn't have reacted the same if not better.

I'm starting to believe that only Republicans died on 9/11, the way they seem to be laying claim to the day.

The whole proceedings are lethargic to say the least. But take a look around to see who's sitting out there. A bunch of old farts and 10 black guys. Oops, that's 9 black guys and Condaleeza Rice.

Astros baseball>Seinfeld>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>infinity>>>RNC

They will dodge the isues, and play on peoples' fear. It's what they know and what they're good at.

You hit the nail on the head. They don't have a valid reason why their administration should be granted four more years. If they start to talk about the issues, that will become apparent to even the most clueless of people. The economy sucks, good paying jobs are being farmed out, the war in Iraq was a mistake and we have no exit strategy, environmental policies have gone backwards, our allies hate us, and we've gone from surplus to deficit. But hey, our President isn't getting head from interns and that's all that really matters to the right wing.

It sucks not to be able to say, with pride, that you're an American.

I am a New Yorker and loved how Giulianni handled 9/11 ... when it happened.

But his obvious brown nosed speech tonight was just fucking embarassing. I wanted to throw shit at the TV. I thought it was the week after 9/11 ... I mean the whole thing was a trip down memory lane. And at the end he had the balls to say that Bush is a "President with Vision for the Future"

I am watching this thing and fearfully thinking that Bush will win another 4 years. These guys are good at twisting words around and making the "simpler" folk believe their word as gospel.

I don't know about that... the formerly highly touted Astros are having a rather pathetic and underwhelming season.
Media hype. Gotta love it.

Still better than Seinfeld and the RNC. Besides, only 4 back in the wildcard is hardly pathetic.

well... i guess if you're a true fan... it's still fun to watch your team despite a bad season...

hell, i've put up with 12 straight losing seasons of Pirates baseball!

Back on topic...

I'm not surprised at what's going on in the convention, because, as you say, there isn't much else for them to focus on. To hold it in New York, and then focus on 9/11, is such an obvious way to play the nostalgia card, to get back that same feeling of when the country felt united for those few days.

Again, any President would have handled the situation accordingly, except I don't think many Presidents would have sat on their asses for 7 minutes after hearing that planes were flying into the trade towers.

Hopefully we'll see some cool riots. That always makes good tv. Looting is fun!

As much as we're all seeing this resentment towards Bush, I fear that he still might win. There are lots of right wing christian-types out there who love this guy because he talks about his faith all the time, and I don't know what happened in the last 12 months but America turned into one big Sunday church session.

Don't forget they've still got the Osama Bin Laden card up their sleeve...if he's captured, that would be a huge victory for Bush when they release the news.

p.s. I think Markgugs is one of those guys with the giant foam penises, protesting outside the convention.
Protesting? Damn, I'm not sure if I know anyone who is a bigger supporter of the invasion of Iraq.

Unless of course he's protesting against the French or something. :tickled:

yeah I know he is/was a lover of Bush:loco: that's why the visual was so humorous to me:Spin:

I know...let's smoke him out of his secure, undisclosed location by insulting him unmercifully.

"Markgugs, your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries!"

Repeat ad nauseum. :D

I wanted to visit NYC this week but decided not to because the RNC. I'm not paying attention to it because I don't care, national conventions are the biggest self-parody of American politics.

i would not be surprised if Osama will be conveniently captured a month or so before the elections.

I think I lost all respect I had gained for Giuliani after 9/11 when he said we owed it to the victims to reselect Bush...
He said that? I can't imagine anything more insulting. Interesting how people just assume that victims of 9/11 are pro-Bush.

Do we owe it to the families that lost their sons and daughters in Iraq to re-elect Bush?

Did anyone see Bill O'Reilly verbally attack the young man who signed a petition against Bush? Of course, the problem O'Reilly had was that this young man's father died on 9/11 in the towers so he thought it insulting to be anti-Bush. So he threw him off his show and told him he should be ashamed of himself for dishonouring his father.

Seriously, this is the mentality we're dealing with here. Yes, where the fuck are all those people who once supported Bush and the war? They were smothering UM in masses of threads and now they've all 'vanished' with tail between legs?

Fox Channel - may you burn in hell.

Virginia congressman quits campaign amid rumors
Report: Web site alleges Republican Schrock is gay

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Rep. Ed Schrock, one of the most conservative members of the House of Representatives, unexpectedly dropped his bid for a third term Monday amid unverified allegations that he called a gay phone sex line.

The married Republican lawmaker, who has skipped the Republican National Convention, said in a statement that unspecified allegations sparked his decision.

Allegations that Schrock is gay were posted on the Web site blogactive.com by Michael Rogers, according to The Associated Press.

Two House Republican leadership aides told CNN that Schrock has been wrestling this month with how to respond to the allegations.

Schrock, who plans to serve out the remainder of his term, has been a leading supporter of the Federal Marriage Amendment, a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage.

Rogers told the AP that his blog is aimed at exposing "hypocrites" in Congress.

"It got to the point that he had to address [the allegations]," one GOP leadership aide said.

Schrock had at least one meeting with the National Republican Congressional Committee to discuss the allegations. Schrock initially suggested to the NRCC that he "was going to fight it hard" before he had a change of heart, the aide said.

"He didn't want to drag his family through this thing," the aide said.

Attempts to contact the congressman through his chief of staff were unsuccessful.

"In recent weeks, allegations have surfaced that have called into question my ability to represent the citizens of Virginia's 2nd Congressional District," Schrock said in a statement, according to the AP.

"After much thought and prayer, I have come to the realization that these allegations will not allow my campaign to focus on the real issues facing our nation and region," the statement said. "Therefore, as of today, I am stepping aside and will no longer be the Republican nominee for Congress in Virginia's 2nd Congressional District."

The decision leaves Republicans scrambling to find a replacement before Friday's deadline. The GOP is widely expected to retain the seat in eastern Virginia, which is the home base of conservative televangelist Pat Robertson.

The party planned a meeting Tuesday in Virginia Beach to select a new nominee.

State GOP chairwoman Kate Obenshain Griffin issued a statement thanking Schrock for his service.

"It is now important for Virginia Republicans to unite behind our nominee and work hard to ensure the 2nd Congressional District continues to be represented by Republicans," the statement said.
