THE TREND IS DEADDDDDDD!

I used to categorize music when I was younger but not anymore. I'm too old for that. I have a hard enough time remembering what I did yesterday to have to worry if a band I like fits into the right category. Not only that, you could be missing out on some really good music because the musical "powers that be" label a band one way when maybe they really aren't. Even if the band knows that they aren't that type of music, I don't think there is much that can be done about it when it comes to marketing. This is an example only but right now VH1 has a little tour called Metal Mania Stripped (Stripped because they are acoustic) with - Jani Lane (Warrant), Stephen Pearcy (Ratt), Kip Winger (Winger) and Firehouse. Now being the 80s Queen of Glam Bands back in the day I know damn well none of them classifies as metal so why the hell does VH1 call it that? I'll never understand. But it always irritates me because people get pissed - Jani Lane isn't metal. Why is he pretending to be metal? So people right away get so pissed they don't even want to give it a chance. And yes, I know noone here is going to want to listen to Warrant this is only an example. Don't get so pissed off about categories of music. You should have your "I like it" category and you're "I don't like it" category. It makes life much simpler.

On a side note, I like tight Levis on a guy, if that counts for anything.

EMOTIONAL HARDCORE = EMO

as for some good bands i suggest the following:

THRICE
POISON THE WELL
CIRCA SURVIVE
GLASSJAW
ALEXISONFIRE

That's if some of the people on this board can get their heads out of 1989.

If the alternative to being in 1989 is exxposing myself to that pile of over hyped, under skilled, whiney teenage drivel, then give me back my hi-tops and I'll gladly get the skin tight black jeans and bullet belt out of retirement.

The sound of "now" doesn't always stand the test of time.

Ask 99% of the nu metal bands. "Emo" is headed the same way.

metal is dead but it lives in my heart

Metal isn't dead at all, in fact it flourishes, thanks to the net. Sure, metal you see on the TV may be a piss poor relation of what metal should be, but the real stuff is still there, you just have to find it.

Some of my favourites this year:

Exodus
Thee Plague of Gentlemen (www.tpog.be)
Isole
Centurions Ghost (great mp3s on their website)
Cathedral
Vader E.P.

I could go on and on!
