I used to categorize music when I was younger but not anymore. I'm too old for that. I have a hard enough time remembering what I did yesterday to have to worry if a band I like fits into the right category. Not only that, you could be missing out on some really good music because the musical "powers that be" label a band one way when maybe they really aren't. Even if the band knows that they aren't that type of music, I don't think there is much that can be done about it when it comes to marketing. This is an example only but right now VH1 has a little tour called Metal Mania Stripped (Stripped because they are acoustic) with - Jani Lane (Warrant), Stephen Pearcy (Ratt), Kip Winger (Winger) and Firehouse. Now being the 80s Queen of Glam Bands back in the day I know damn well none of them classifies as metal so why the hell does VH1 call it that? I'll never understand. But it always irritates me because people get pissed - Jani Lane isn't metal. Why is he pretending to be metal? So people right away get so pissed they don't even want to give it a chance. And yes, I know noone here is going to want to listen to Warrant this is only an example. Don't get so pissed off about categories of music. You should have your "I like it" category and you're "I don't like it" category. It makes life much simpler.
On a side note, I like tight Levis on a guy, if that counts for anything.
