Nice edit. :tickled: I like condiments/toppings/marinade/coatings and I'm kinda indifferent to the actual meat. If I went vegetarian about the only things I'd really miss taste-wise are salami, gravy and pork roast. So pork wins.

Yeah marinade is the most important part of meat prep...but toppings and condiments? Unless were talking burgers or something ✋ no thanks. That being said, nowadays i have to have mustard with my burgers and sandwiches

When I go to a steak restaurant (occasionally) I'm looking at what sauce/butter/seasoning etc. the steak comes with more than the steak itself. Last week I went out and had a scotch fillet (ie. boneless ribeye) that came with mushrooms in sauce. It was good and all but add the same stuff to fried tofu or something and I'd probably enjoy it just as much.

Well seasoning is pretty much a part of the marination. Butter ... sometimes, usually when the steak is on the drier side. But sauce? On my steak? Fuuuuck no.

How much was the fillet? Don't know about NZ prices but I'm assuming between $30 and $40?

NZ$43 and I think it was 285g (10oz). Keep in mind that's tax included and there's no tipping bollocks here! Possibly a bit average in terms of cut quality, but I'm far from a connoisseur. If I walk a little further there's a steakhouse that probably does better quality. They've got a 500g scotch fillet for NZ$49 but they'd charge me extra for sauce or mushrooms so the pricing works out size wise.

Curious to see an example of the menu at these posh Techbro $100 steak places. I've clicked around on Google Maps to see the prices of stuff in the US occasionally, but many places are cagey about prices if they even let outsiders access their websites at all. Once place I just looked up has heart buttons next to each menu item and a number counting the reactions. I bet a few have confused it for the price. Can usually find some recent photos of menus on Trip Advisor or Yelp though.

I paid $36.95 for a 200g sirloin and a 250g rack of ribs with salad and chips last night.
The $13.50 bourbon was a bit of a joke though.

I got a ribeye a few weeks ago from a place called Ruth Chris and if i remember correctly it was around $80. And yea, total rip off ... which is why i rarely go to higher end steakhouses. And i dont even think Ruth Chris is even considered high. Filet mignons are usually a little cheaper but thats not a cut i go for when eating out.

Yeah figured it was around that price.

I buy Wagyu steaks in bulk and I never top them with a sauce. Just give them a season rub and they're great. Ought to be at like $80 per piece!

I don't eat red meat often anymore so when I do I like a treat. Also I never go to steak places or restaurants in general, so I have no idea if it's typical to level up a cheaper steak with a fancy sauce.
