Nocturnal Rites - Afterlife is the last traditional euro power metal album I really dug. It's nice and heavy, detuned guitars, dark and they have a really good singer that sounds a bit like Mats Leven, Max might now him from Abstract Algebra and Krux since he's into doomy stuff.

Every song is straight the point, melodic, catchy and awesome on that album.

Also the second Evergrey album is awesome Solitude Dominance Tragedy.

It's hard for power metal bands to be melodic without being really happy and gay, that's why SDT is a winner.

It is brooding and dark but is also emotional and melodic without getting into unicorn land.

Everything they put out after that it meh to me.

Well, BG rules of course, but they're pretty obvious. Ram-a-gay is pretty gay, Helloween and Dream evil not my thing.
