The what's going on in Thrash thread

It's got to be the producers fault though, after all the band work on the songs, write them, refine them, play them, then they just hand over the songs to the chosen producer and he/she does whatever they want no questions asked. I bet the band doesn't even listen to the songs once they've played the last note, so it can't be their fault. :)

Of course the band ultimately is to blame. What you've shown above is a great example of a straw man argument. Producers can/do make a big difference in tones and arrangements, which is what my chief complaint is. For an example of this, check out the recent Blabbermouth stories about Mustaine and Max Norman.

As far as Sneap goes, I'd gladly take the production of "Low" (Michael Wagener, a true master) over, for example "Titans of Creation" or the last few Overkill albums.

Well just ruin all the mystique why don't you!

Yeah, that was a great one and the exception to the rule. Generally these days he has terrible drum tones which just don't work well in thrash. His Accept albums sound good.

I'd definitely take Sneap over Juan. And Sneap playing guitar in JP is just blasphemy and shows that they are little more than a Halford solo band at this point.
What don't you like about the drums?

I don't have a whole lot to say about Priest. They still have Ian and Glen. It's not Glens fault he can't play very much. and the drummer has been there 30 years? I'm not really caught up in the line up like some people because I was never a huge fan. As long as they make good tunes I don't really care who is in it. I liked firepower. At least what I have heard of it.

Yeah, I don't care who's in the band as long as the music is good either. I just don't think the music is good.

I personally don't believe the story that Glenn is still contributing a lot. I think it's pretty much all Sneap and KK Wylde Jr. writing all the guitar parts. Musically, it sounds a lot more similar to recent Accept than the guitar work of all the previous Judas Priest albums. KK and Glenn used to have a playing/writing style that sounds little like this. Take Halford's vox off and it could be any of a number of generic Euro metal bands.

The drummer doesn't matter really, as he doesn't write much of anything and JP isn't really a drum-centric band like Slayer or something. Ian certainly doesn't matter as his contributions are far less than Scott's even.

JP is a band that has lied about huge things before. They released a "live" album where the lead vocals were all done in the studio. They credited a drummer who didn't play on a lot of "Ram it Down" and Ian Hill didn't play bass on "Painkiller" either but was credited. So they, like most any other band, is fine with lying to the public if they think it helps their marketability. They know that without KK AND Glenn that this is just a Halford solo gig, which brings its market value WAY down. It's not about blame, it's about the truth and reality. It's over and the truth will come out eventually.

JP is in my top 2 bands ever but they are totally done and one step away from being a touring hologram. All good things must come to an end sometime.

Lol. KK Wylde Jr.
It was a little cringy to learn that the bass on Painkiller is actually keyboard bass. Why didn't they get a bassist to do it?!

I think Don Airey had already done some keys for them and was hanging around. But yeah, at least bring in a studio bassist like tons of other bands have done in similar situations.

But who gets the final say? Obviously the band, therefore if the sound they want is what the producer offers them then it's not the producers fault, the producer has done the job he's paid to do. These bigger bands chooses the producer because they like his work, not because he can make them sound like someone else they like. Bruce has said Maiden sound like they do because of Shirley, he knows how to get out of the band what the band want, yet so many people have blamed Shirley alone for Senjitsu sounding the way it does. By Bruce's words alone that's what they want to sound like. I'm not suggesting the producer doesn't have an influence, but to continually blame the producer only as so many do really is becoming old

KK should have been invited back in with open arms and a huge sloppy kiss!!

Oh shit, his new album comes out next week (from memory) get ready for the sob stories and crying about how he was treated and how much he deserves to be back in Priest!

Fuck KK, Fuck the whingers, JP are better than they've been for years, the lack of KK and the addition of Sneap has a lot to do with that!

I was actually hoping this would happen after he got canned. It does make it more legitimate. Also good to see Dave working with people again.
Some of the merch is kinda cool.

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/d...ntary-about-late-megadeth-drummer-nick-menza/

I'm surprised they have got this far and now need a co-producer. But good on him for getting involved. His company might not be the most prolific yet but it does seem to be heading in the right direction and hopefully will give this doco the push it needs.

I do wonder if a certain other Dave might be a little pissed that this is happening. Nick's family doesn't seem to want to start fights with Mustaine but Mustaine always has to debunk something about Nick's Megadeth days. Now with a possibly pissed off Ellefson involved there's a lot Dave might not like that could be aired. I hope they don't, but I have no problem with Mustaine being on edge.

Goddamn, I don't keep up with all this drama like you guys, but some of these story lines are more entertaining than what I can find on the Real Housewives shows I watch.

Dave Mustaine seems like the type of guy who either has several online aliases he uses to keep his name in the press or he pays people to keep his name in the press.

Wait until we start embellishing the stories for the really high drama like those reality shows do! :)

The problem Mustaine would have with multiple aliases is that they would start disagreeing with each other. The guy is either misquoted in the press or he flip flops from one side of the fence to the other whenever he thinks people have forgotten the original story. I'm sure he's been misquoted many times, but I'm also fairly confident in suggesting that Mustaine's truth changes the more often Mustaine retells the story.

Actually on the note of Ellefson co-producing the Menza doco, kudos to the Menza family etc for letting it happen. The comments on Blabber about the connection to David and film making prove that such a move could be turned on it's head quickly. The potential for fall out from mouthy dumbarses by adding the name Ellefson films is real but it looks like they have ignored it. Good on them!

I just can't see his album selling very well at all. It's been pure cheese so far. Haha. Sneap The Priest Killer!
