The what's going on in Thrash thread

If I remember correctly from the data I was able to attain a month or so back the figure of 400,000 is even more than Anthrax's SOWN and it's quite a bit more than POT. That's some impressive figures from a band I really don't know much about :)

WOW, that's crazy.

I knew they had a big buzz in the early 2000s or so but I never dreamed that they had moved that many units.

I'm pretty out of the loop admittedly because I was surprised when I saw how much more Slipknot had sold than Pantera. :)

I wonder if their popularity is as sustainable though. What I mean is 1 guy buys a SF CD but is really more interested in The Next Big Thing and won't stick with SF over the years. An Anthrax fan might be more likely to stick around for many years.

That's my theory anyway.

Oh! Did they finally get the rights No Place For Disgrace?! I can't believe he thinks there are things wrong with that album. It's perfect. He thinks a lot of strange things lol. He's the reason for any weak albums. But he doesn't even touch on Ugly Noise which was his big come back to the band album where he wrote almost everything. And it's the worst one as far as I'm concerned. But he's made the last two great so I can't harp on him too much I guess.

P.S. There's no way he's heard people say My God is like Drift part two. They are nothing alike!

Man, I used to be the biggest Flots fan in the world. Loved the Metallica thrashiness with the Queensryche/Judas Priest vocal style. I also could not get into Ugly Noise at all despite it seeming to be a big comeback, at least for their drummer finally coming back to the band after so long. I actually met AK before one of their shows years ago and was surprised he didn't like When the Storms Come Down. He said he didn't like the production. I used to jam that one a lot. I wish all "bad" albums were that good!

I took a singing lesson from some girl in my class when I was a kid and played her the high note in "Suffer the Masses" and told her I wanna sing like that. Haha. Crazy the things you'll do when you're a kid. I did many years later end up taking real singing lessons and learn how to do all that kind of stuff.

I think you're probably right, the numbers I found were a bit hard to read but they were consistent.

Anthrax's sales where big (for them) for SOWN and POT, their two biggest albums, but the rest of their albums have had relatively steady numbers. Those figures were about 200,000 units per album which does seem to indicate they have a steady solid base of fans buying their stuff over 30+ years.

Anthrax is one of those bands that cops a lot of shit from some people who claim they aren't thrash, they make terrible music, whatever, but they have been around 30+ years and despite making fans wait too long between albums they are consistent with releases every few years. A band like SF has been around about 1/3 of that time. It's hard to suggest either the band or the fans will still be there in another 20 years.

My singing lessons consisted of "here's a mic do whatever you want". It could be a reason why we never made it out of the pubs and clubs, but I prefer to think it was a joint effort and that all of us were terrible :) Growing up (I wont say it was maturing :P ) was also a big reason we didn't keep going. Careers took over, life took over, girl friends took over, families took over. I know none of those things have to stop a band but Melbourne in the 80's was thriving with hundreds of bands trying to get gigs every week and very few making it big, it just became easier to earn money doing other jobs.

In related but unrelated news about sales. According to Billboard Van Halen sales were up 6000% on the day of Eddie's death, and increase of 40,000 songs and albums purchased in one day.

I have a feeling he brings in more than his fair share of throwaways lol.I know he really likes dubstep...

Nah I used to only write million dollar hits, everyone else wrote shit. So I have faith he doesn't write throwaways :)

Yeah Kelly and Mike's big comeback and it was..there was some ok songs but heavy was right out the window. The album is schizophrenic at best. Kills me that I got into the credits lol. Why couldn't it be a good album?!
And then Kelly left.
I love WTSCD. But I was let down by the production .It seemed like a step back from No Place. I put it away for a long time. But when Metalmind records out of Poland remastered it. It got new love from me. It sounds great and since I put it away for so long I got new appreciation for it. That bass!
I couldn't even imagine hitting those notes!

I really have to go back through Flots stuff more often. I really only ever find myself listening too the first three and End Of Chaos regularly.

It popped up on getmetal, but looking at it now I'm not sure it's official because there is no news from the band about it.

If you search google for it only leak sites come up in the results, but none of the 'coming soon' sites list anything either.
