The what's going on in Thrash thread

I'm less and less surprised by these sort of stories as years go on. Bands and musos have been getting ripped off by manages and labels forever. It's good to see some of them have come full circle by creating their own management and labels to fight back but it seems like the problem never goes away.

I find it funny how so many people are quick to shit on Sharon Osbourne for ripping off musos that played with Ozzy yet the same people don't aim the same hatred towards record labels. The only difference between Sharon and the record labels is that the labels don't have a public face to point fingers at.

I don't know how High School works over there but over here one of the biggest issues, and I'm not saying this would fix all issues, is that kids are not being taught about money. Sure there is courses in accounting and stuff like that but there is nothing on basic money management. I know the promise of mega stardom is attractive but if more young bands had more understanding about money, were it came from and where it went I think there would have been more switched on young bands. In this country it's mostly sports stars because we don't have too many mega music stars. They get picked up at 15, pay rises dramatically at 18, then they get closed into the sports bubble which is unrealistic and then when they retire at 35 they have no idea where their money goes, if in fact they've been able to keep it.

Not making light of covid and how bad it is but geezus is Will Carrol ever going to talk about anything other than covid in his lifetime.
I was over hearing about his covid story in April yet again today it's on Blabber.

Well I think you nailed your own question. I think it is because Sharon is the public face and a record company doesn't really have one.
But have no fear! I hate the record companies as well! :)

Yeah it's pretty much the same situation here. As far as I know anyway. They may have added a new class. Sports and music kids seem to have the same issue. But anyone can lose their money I guess. If they are lucky they have someone they can trust.

You obviously don't comment on Blabber, a hatred of Sharon only gets you through the day :)

Oh yeah loosing money isn't all down to lack of education, but considering they teach cooking/food health in school because kids need to learn to eat better and feed themselves it does seem weird we don't teach them that they need money to actually do all that.

Nope! Never!

I know covid and the bus accident are two very different events but I don't remember Death Angel being in the media so much after the accident. At the time they were going to quit music, they were going to change direction, all sorts of things but I still don't remember them getting the same sort of coverage. Seems as bad as it was covid was good for Will and the band.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of what he's doing but Dirk's really keeping busy at that moment. From memory I believe the drum tracks are down for the new 'deth album but I very much doubt Dirk gets paid to sit around and wait for Dave to make up his mind about what's going on so these video, songs, albums are probably a necessity, but it's good to see someone busy.

Days before heavy internet usage perhaps?!

Smart move on Dave's part. Don't pay him on down time BUT you can do all the side work you want until we're ready. Knowing he'll come back for the main paycheck. You know, if that's at all what he's doing lol.

Yeah the internet was a different place back then so it's hard to compare the two but the band were going to quit having not long before signed a major label deal. Maybe Blabber and their cohorts just weren't as click hungry back then and therefore didn't report on the story unless there was a development as opposed to toady's Blabber that can make a 5 word statement into 15 articles.

Oh yeah that wouldn't surprise me, and lets face it it's a good deal for both sides so lawyers/managers etc would no doubt be happy to agree with such terms. If that's what is happen I'm glad for Dirk, but I wish he'd produce something more to my liking :) Actually I wish Dave would just get his act together!

Speaking of side gigs. With all the praise Jnr has heaped on Dirk and the amount of side projects both have been doing. Is it weird that they aren't doing anything together. If they get along as well as they say I'd think they'd have at least one song together. Or do they and I'm just not aware of it? Are they afraid to overuse the partnership?
Questions for the ages.

L.O.V.E. Machine on the new covers album has Dirk on it. But lets face it no one is going to hear that :)

I suppose time constraints on both sides could be a contributing factor but given what Jnr's putting out and what what Dirk's putting out I think I'd be willing to cite musical differences as a big factor that they are collaborating.

With luck we'll see more footage from those jam sessions.

That promo looks positive, not just for the viewer but for Nick as well. It does truly look like it's going to focus on Nick.

I do wonder why the woman doing the voice over (and others) use references like "repeated failed reunion attempts". From my count in Nick's book there was only three actual attempts, there was a lot of hearsay and suggestions but there was one where Marty turned up to dinner with his manager and Dave got pissy because it was supposed to be just the boys. There was one where 2 Daves and a Nick actually worked for several months but Marty said he was staying in Japan. And there was the one big attempt where they did all actually get together and couldn't get along with each other. I don't really call that repeated failures given they happened over about 15 years.

https://metalinjection.net/news/yes...e-metal-musician-as-his-respiratory-therapist

Headline is a bit 'clickbaity' but we all like a good news story so I clicked on it not expecting much. Sure enough some dude in a coma wakes to find that one of his therapists is in a metal band he likes. Figured I'd know neither so I wasn't surprised to not recognise the names but I clicked on the video link expecting Metal Injection to have stuffed some shitty metalcore band in the under the guise of real metal. But I was pleasantly surprised. The band in the video isn't that bad. Thrash from Kansas and the drum beat on that song is like a pounding hammer.

Fuck it Metal Injection you've almost passed of an article with worthy information in it...where's the awards list for 2020!
