The what's going on in Thrash thread

Ooh I have no idea. I didn't even know there was such a song!

Oh I just realised they are still on Nuclear Blast, as they were at the time that song was recorded. Since NB is a daughter company of Century Media and the connection was enough to have the song removed back in '04, chances are the same fears still apply. No slagging off the parent company, even with cleverly named songs like Crime Of The Century

Hmmm that is very interesting.

It must have been good. I don't know the details of what Century did but apparently Gary was pissed.

MA has it's uses but I stand by my statement, the mods are dicks! However I also think they get off on it like some strange aphrodisiac.

"When we were done with '…And Justice For All' and the subsequent two-year tour, there was no place to go on that path," Ulrich told Mojo. "We'd hit the wall. The last song on that album is a song called 'Dyers Eve' and it's six or seven minutes of the most crazy progressive off-the-wall stuff METALLICA is capable of doing. After playing all those songs on the road for a couple of years, we said, 'There's got to be a reset here.'"
Dyers Eve is progessive metal?

Yeah, they sounded LETHAL on that tour and wrote their best album yet. Even side 2 just raged.

So yeah .... clearly it's time to do a 180.

Yeah the AJFA tour was a hell of a tour. For us here in Oz it was really the first large scale international thrash show. We'd had a few smaller overseas bands tour and we had a massive home grown scene, but Metallica had ads on commercial radio and they even made the news services. The band backed up the hype with shows that were everything fans wanted and nothing like the pop music culture of mainstream media wanted. It was excellent, but it was also never repeated again by them. By the time they came back for the Black album it was like they were pop music.

The database is awesome, the forum is pure trash.

I find that some of their threads are good. I follow multiple threads and check up on every update. But when Mod involvement happens it turns to shit. Or if there is any argument to have they all seem to base their arguments on one person's account rather than actually seek the truth.

"Deep cuts set" is what I've been wanting EVERY veteran thrash band to do, so I am interested.

I think their days of writing great songs again is over IMHO.

It would be good to see some of the veteran bands do it but I suppose with every new album that sort of thing gets harder. Maiden kind of did it with decades and that worked for them, whether other bands need to do it the same way or the way Anthrax is proposing, remains to be seen. The problem I see is that Anthrax aren't known for diversity in their set lists. Their 40 min, third tier, festival set lists are nearly always the same. Sure a live stream will/should give them more control over what they play but they just don't have a good track record for change. If their live stream is free I'll watch it, but otherwise I'm not paying for anything Anthrax until I see a new album and even then I'll preview the damn thing before I buy it.

It's good to see them doing something (and I didn't watch the video) but I agree with this comment in the comment section.

Fuck this bullshit... no new cash goes to Scott until we get a record.
Eh. Lame. A bunch of people saying how great they are then one show? BFG.

Am I missing something? Maybe it’s cause I just got baked. But it says they’re turning 40. And then it says “active over the past 5 decades” Heh?

I’ve really enjoyed the last albums with Joey, I think there’s some really good stuff. But. You’re right. It ain’t like the old days. And I would love some deep cuts!

Yeah I'm not leaping for joy, but like I say it's good to see them finally doing something. Will it be too little too late? The dudes in the Anthrax threads don't think so, but then I suspect those are the types of people that would buy Scott Ian's shit if he was to market it. They'd probably eat it too if Scott said they'd get a free guitar pick.

It's not because you're baked, it's creative maths. 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, 20's is technically five decades even though that have only been at it forty years. It's kind of like saying we're recording a new album and then not delivering anything for 5 years....but who'd do that!!

That's cause you're baked :P
But I have more time than most, my work is not overly demanding and I'm at a computer most of the day. When it comes to MA's forum I just click on 'new posts' and scan the thread titles for anything interesting, I certainly don't read all the threads.

I think they put the pressure on themselves with Kings, it wasn't their best effort but it was good and now they are struggling to repeat it. Joey's still a great singer but he's not what he used to be. Charlie is not always 100% stage fit I don't believe, they seem to treat 'whathisname' as hired help and Scott's a fucking douchebag half the time. I struggle to see the current band being able to repeat the likes of POT.
