The what's going on in Thrash thread

I'd love to know just exactly how much they have done. I bet not shit. They were all ready for another year of no touring and did no work on it.

Yeah I think you're right. I'm sure they had a heap of festivals booked and they spanned months so there was no recording on the books then. As one of the comments on Blabber said "If they recorded songs as often as they talked about writing songs they'd have a box set by now!"

It has been a few years and they put on a great show! I have seen Testament a few times and they have been hit or miss, but the last time I saw them they were outstanding.:kickass:
Yeah I have wanted to catch them too but it never seems to work out.Ever since their reformation around late 2009 beginning with Relentless Retribution in 2010 they have been on quite the roll :headbang:

Awesome, yeah from what I've seen they're pretty nasty live.
I wasn't at the Testament shows. But before this last album came out and maybe even Brotherhood, their sound guy was shit. I'm not sure if that's what you mean or the band itself just wasn't hitting?

Agreed! Their 2004 album, the Art of Dying is often overlooked but it has some killer songs. Thrown to the Wolves, 5 steps of Freedom, Thicker Than Blood, Famine, and the Devil Incarnate are all great songs! :headbang:

Because I'm perfect in every way :) it really pisses me off when sound is fucked at gigs. Be it small gigs or big gigs some sound guys just don't get it. Back when we used run gigs our gear was always set up, the venue was used for nothing other than us, or practice for bands we allowed in. The only people who ever touched the sound gear was us, which was fine because very few of the bands were known enough to have their own PA let alone sound guys. But even we knew that the sound had to be levelled every damn gig. Some times it wasn't much, other times it was. Rooms change, sounds changes everything changes, yet it seems like so many of these sound guys doing it for a living forget that simple idea. And don't get me started on sound guys who only test levels with their cans on instead of listening to it around the room!

I can relate to this. I was pretty much the same as Gary describes. The happy social drunk when I was 18, never drank alone, always with other people. Whether it was at all ages gigs (out the back of course), with the parents of the kids I coached, or even on the road with other bands, as long as there was other people around drinking was fun and everyone looked after each other so while there was silly drunk stories there was no dumb drunk stories. Then when I started driving the truck all night and getting home at 10am there was no one else to drink with when my day ended so I drank alone. Being alone led to more drinking, bored drinking, and losing any social connection. I didn't give up drinking totally when the kids were born, but I barely drink anything now compared to what I used to.

It happened for so long too. That's the really baffling part. I don't understand that level of incompetence and still keeping your job.
So hard to get good help.

Good one you. It's really easy to fall into that I think. I'm sure the wife and kids appreciate it!

Yeah I guess it's like any job, you get too comfortable and you start cutting corners or just going about a routine. For most bands they probably don't hear how bad some performances are because they have either their foldbacks or ear pieces.

Although I suppose some could keep their jobs by being like my Mum's cousin who used to do lights for bands like Motley Crue etc across America and Canada. He supplied the band with certain products so he became their tour guy time and time again. It all works well until you rip off someone like Jack Black or Phish and they write songs about you naming you as a shitty drug dealer who doesn't pay the bills :)

That's why they sell their own masks!

That is one form of band merch I have not been tempted to purchase. I don't buy a lot of merch these days anyway but I'm certainly not buying expensive masks with a band name on them even if we still have to wear them everywhere after 18 months of this shit.

My wife drinks more than I do now...bloody drunk!!
I don't know if I was ever going to end up sick from alcohol (liver damage etc) but I'm glad cut down dramatically. It's weird being on night shift permanently. When a day shift worker comes home at 5(ish) and opens a beer its seems kind of normal, but when you get home at 10am after doing what is your normal day at work it still feels strange opening a beer. I think once that strange feeling goes you realise it's not about the social aspect.

When I bought my Flotsam merch a couple months ago before the album, I bought a shirt and two masks. But I kinda had too because they didn't have much. And lets face it Flotsam could use the dough, they're a small operation. I wish I could have bought more masks lol. They're just for fun though.
But bands like Megadeth and Anthrax, the bigger bands. Fuck them.
At least Flotsam still has underground cred.
