The what's going on in Thrash thread

That's what made me bring it up. You'd think Anthrax would have said something about Howe. But I guess kissing Metal Church's ass isn't as potentially profitable as Slipknots. And wtf Testament. nothng?

I don't think those bands did any touring with MC during the Mike Howe era.

Still though. He was a big part of our community. It's just respectful. Solidarity you know?

I think MH means a lot to US. As in, I listened to Blessing in Disguise a TON as a kid and also Human Factor. I don't think he was on their radar at all, or MC in general by the late 80s.

In some ways, these old thrash musicians in thrash bands aren't really hardcore thrash fans.

They should give him his due, but they don't. Because they're mostly just poseurs. :)

I suppose they could have just missed the news (although you'd have to think that is unlikely). Testament haven't actually posted anything on FB for two weeks now. Maybe whoever does their social media is on holidays or something.

I did wonder about Anthrax too. I know I've hung shit on them for being a mid tier festival band but maybe that is a reflection of who they do and don't associate with. I bet Anthrax has been the crumbs on a heap more Slipknot festival gigs than they have had gigs with Metal Church. It doesn't excuse them ignoring Metal Church but it could be an explanation.

Totally agree, MC in various forms have been around for long enough to deserve respect. But I'd also suggest (without looking for evidence) that Anthrax crossed paths with MC more than a few times in the early years.

I know Slayer were fans of MC on their debut (as evidenced by their t-shirts), as were Metallica (who talked them up in interviews at that time, as being a band that was like themselves) but after Wayne left the band I never saw any of those bands ever talk about being fans.

I never saw Exodus talk about Nasty Savage or wear their shirts, yet they were quick to offer up good messages for the drummer when it was announced this week he had cancer. I never saw Flotz wear Slipknot shirts yet they offered condolences. T-shirts and talk mean fuck all. Just look and Lars and his favourite Anthrax songs.

Without looking into it..:D I thought Testament and Metal Church were on one of those 70.000 tons of metal cruises?
Idk. To me it's one big thrash family. They are all peers. Just seems not right. But that's me.

I believe you could be right. I'm sure Testament and MC have shared a few gigs including Euro festivals. The fact that nothing has been posted to their FB at all makes me think they are having a break and that it's not a case of them ignoring it.

Yeah. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Kinda weird though. Especially Gene, Steve and Alex who are no strangers to social media. I mean just put out a statement under the Testament banner. At least let your fans know you feel their pain.
I appreciated Overkill's statement the most.

Gene's been quiet on FB too. I wonder if there is something going on with the band.
Jason on behalf of Overkill did a good message for the guy from Slipknot too.

Of course people are offering Slipknot condolences. They are about 100 times more popular than MC, especially the replacement singer of MC. To me, the Mike Howe death hit hard and I've never liked Slipknot at all.

I didn't know that Curtis Besson had brain cancer but that is very sad. He is an awesome drummer and definitely stepped up NS's sound. He has awesome in Havoc Mass too, a really underrated thrash band. Exodus probably feel some kinship because their drummer has also gone through cancer.
